See also two of Arthur C Clarke's books, "Voice Across the Sea" and "How the World Was One".

I'm sure you realise Clarke had a track record in this area, especially page 41 (305) of this pdf: https://www.americanradiohistory.com/Archive-Wireless-World/40s/Wireless-World-1945-10.pdf

I was pretty sure that the first transatlantic telegraph cable(s) originated at Porthcurno, Cornwall, not Ireland. (I've seen the terminations in the cabin at the top of the beach).

The 'hut':

EDIT: Oops, no. Not the first ones.

It is truly amazing that any person today has the capacity to communicate instantly and without limit, around the world, ... virtually for free.

WWII generals did not have a millionth of what the average person has today.
All my posts are made with 100% recycled electrons and bare traces of grey matter.

As Arthur C Clarke put it, this might be the only generation where it is possible to have a voice conversation with any other person. Think about it :)
