Very philosophical and not entirely true!  Freedom of choice is the right to make personal choice, even if it is wrong. Abiding by common law excluded of course.

   Quoted for truth!

The buying public MIGHT be willing to make better buying choices except that the manufacturers and resellers of most products frequently and deliberately hide the facts from them. In particular any specification that reflects poorly on that product.

How many of you have NEVER bought some product only to find that no repair information was available, or that OEM parts were excessively expensive or that the quality was poor or the item wore out too quickly or that it didn't do the job that you expected it to; and then said to yourself "if I had known that I would have never bought this item" ?

Hence the old adage, buyer beware!!  We have the Americans to blame for this, they invented sales and marketing and built in obsolescence ;)

So basically you want to do things that are utterly stupid, may cause injuries to yourself and others without people keeping you from doing such stupid things? There is a difference between freedom of choice and freedom to harm yourself. But some people don't see that until it is too late.

IMHO it is a good thing that governments enforce products to be safe and energy efficient. A product that is dangerous and / or inefficient causes more harm and monetary loss in the long run.

RoGeorge:
That's a clickbait, because if I got it wright the ban is on energy consumption level, not on TV resolution.  :--

Same as one can not have a Multiplex Cinema Theater at home, like the one at the nearby mall 3D cinema theater, because the 3D projector will surge more current than allocated to a household consumer.

My eyes used to be 4K but now heading towards SVGA.
