The 'freedom of choice' (being told what to do by advertisements.) of the general public has consequences the general public are incapable of appreciating.
Very philosophical and not entirely true! Freedom of choice is the right to make personal choice, even if it is wrong.
So basically you want to do things that are utterly stupid, may cause injuries to yourself and others without people keeping you from doing such stupid things? There is a difference between freedom of choice and freedom to harm yourself. But some people don't see that until it is too late.
IMHO it is a good thing that governments enforce products to be safe and energy efficient. A product that is dangerous and / or inefficient causes more harm and monetary loss in the long run.
Well, there will always be very stupid people!! Like those that buy Apple products for example

You are manipulating my meaning, not a politician are you ?

Nobody gets things right every time and all the time, so you live, you learn, you make choices, some good, some bad, and you live and learn, it's life's process. Eventually you learn most of the con tricks and the ways of the world and the bad choices and mistakes are fewer, for most.
When governments, or worse, proxy governments like the EU, start to do your thinking for you, you never learn, you obey and lose the ability to learn and think for yourself, you become a consumer zomby, that is bad, very bad.
Live you life, learn by your mistakes.
