...is gone, or rather here ~25% of the time subject to page refresh. I'm guessing the new replacement ad has the prospects of being more profitable.
-
Its there, new bigger space on the top !

It's there ~25% of the time. :-\

I only ever see it if I'm not logged in and there are no other adds. I'm using google chrome so i guess it does not block ads :D

As Johnny Lee (http://johnnylee.net/) of Carnegie Mellon put it:
The latter part of my user experience just became significant, which is why I was wondering if this new ad format has significant profitability over the previous (and ironically useful) toolbar.

I mentioned this some time back.
SupplyFrame wanted to change from the search bar to their ad based system, which as some people have said, would be more profitable for them.
Unfortunately it means losing the (useful!) search bar, and a bigger ad space (hence the move to the very top, I thought it looked better there, but still not ideal). That's the only size they have apparently.
But I don't see any ads yet, except their own, so it's kinda pointless at the moment.
I have asked what's going on, will see what their response is.
Dave.

First I've heard of the proposed switch. The increased ad space doesn't bother me; it's the reduced probability of actually getting the search bar to pop up. But if this new system ultimately translates into more commission in your pocket, I'm all for it.
So far, I've seen 4 variants of the ad pop up (hence the ~25% remark):
1) the proper findchips.com search feature
2) a findchips.com ad that doesn't integrate the search feature
3) ad for Vishay analog mux
4) ad for Vishay power FET
It would have been nicer to have the significantly larger space segmented into a smaller footprint for the search bar + remaining real estate dedicated to ads.

I agree.

Ok, I found out the ads are geographically targeted, hence why I'm not seeing any.

I am in the US and I have a Find chips search bar at the top and bottom of the forum pages all the time
-
Thanks for pointing that out, robrenz. Didn't notice the one on the bottom. I hope Dave is double dipping. =D
EDIT: Come to think of it, the bottom search bar wasn't there earlier today.

I get paid the same regardless of what type of ad or search bar, or how many etc.
It's basically a fixed monthly rate for the exclusive forum sponsorship.
I put the search ba at the bottom back because I find it handy ;D
Dave.

Thanks, Dave.
Never thought I'd be thanking anyone for putting back advert. :P

yet they target adds geographically ? more fools them, I've been wondering for ages why you didn't have adds on the forum, I've never seen any, but funnily do if not logged in........ or maybe it is just a coincidence
