| The long road to singularity |

Are we closer to the singularity than we think? --- End quote --- Already happened. The algorithm knows how to completely influence the 70% most stupid and ignorant part of the population, who in their turn exercise totalitarianism over the still thinking part. --- End quote --- AI is a tool, just like a hammer. It is being used now, by multi-billion dollar companies, to predict and influence economies, and oppress and exploit normal people. It can be used for good, just like my hammer can be used to build a chook pen. AI is good only if it is used to better us all, and not oppress and exploit the weaker ones. I wouldn't use my hammer to hurt my chickens. |

--- Quote from: Picuino on July 11, 2022, 06:43:09 pm ---It is not something we can stop and other more "human" goals, such as getting food and energy for everyone, are on the secondary plane. --- End quote --- Yeah? What for? Says who? Who's driving it? |

--- Quote from: CatalinaWOW on July 11, 2022, 11:52:14 pm ---For some of the implications of a machine smarter than us you need look no farther than those who are smarter than most of us. While we can argue all day about how to measure intelligence it is clear that some are much brighter than average. Reputedly there have been people with an IQ well into the 200s, and there are dozens in the 150 to 200 range. For all of that the Newtons, Einsteins and their like haven't dominated society or completely overturned the world order. And these are humans that have as much ability to directly affect the world around them as anyone else. An intelligence trapped in a server field, even if it escapes to the the web has little way to interface with the world. The singularity, if it happens in the sense feared by Kurzweil and others will come when intelligence not just higher than ours, but dramatically higher is combined with ability to directly interface with the world and the ability to self reproduce. I am fairly confident that even my grandkids won't live to see that. --- End quote --- There is a catch with human intelligence Partially based on physical limitations of the brain, one has just limited resources As you move IQ higher, you need to sacrifice something, you will find an increasing occurrence of autism spectrum and other "disabilities" The vast majority of people in this high range will have very little interest to interact with "dumb monkeys" That is a big difference compared to leaders and dictators Who are "just" higher than average in intelligence but are ASPD (Psychopaths) But they have pleasure from controlling "dumb monkeys", which is their driving force and motivation, even if it is against logic sometimes. The question is will AI have a motivation or will be just a cold logic? |

Whatever bias or motivation is in that training pile of data, your AI will manifest it. For example, look at the disclaimer in this DALL·E mini demo webpage: --- Quote ---While the capabilities of image generation models are impressive, they may also reinforce or exacerbate societal biases. While the extent and nature of the biases of the DALL·E mini model have yet to be fully documented, given the fact that the model was trained on unfiltered data from the Internet, it may generate images that contain stereotypes against minority groups. Work to analyze the nature and extent of these limitations is ongoing, and will be documented in more detail in the DALL·E mini model card. --- End quote --- Source: https://huggingface.co/spaces/dalle-mini/dalle-mini By the way, that's a funny AI demo webpage, look what 'DALL·E mini' generated for horse playing guitar or trumpet: ;D |
