Hedy Lamarr  born Hedwig Eva Maria Kiesler, 9 November 1914 – 19 January 2000)

Animated Google Doodle celebrating the 101st birthday of Inventor and Hollywood star, Hedy Lamarr.

Was an Austrian and American film actress and inventor. After an early and brief film career in Germany, which included a controversial love-making scene in the film Ecstasy (1933), she fled her husband and secretly moved to Paris. There, she met MGM head Louis B. Mayer, who offered her a movie contract in Hollywood, where she became a film star from the late 1930s to the 1950s.

She was the inventor of Frequency-hopping spread spectrum in 11 August 1942 ! its the basis of todays for modern spread-spectrum communication technology, such as GPS, Bluetooth, COFDM (used in Wi-Fi network connections), and CDMA (used in some cordless and wireless cell phones)!

Austrian or Australian, she was amazing, and there was a great radio tribute to her on the Australian ABC Radio National Science Show last year (click the pic for link):
