Found this cool little PDF while reading about IC fabrication, specifically about the Micralign from the 1970s. It's more of a history lesson.

Oh, the "whys" of the datasheets... The information is there not to be an axiomatic truth, but instead each speck of data must be slowly inhaled while carefully performing a deep search inside oneself to find the true metaphysical sense...

Thanks for the link.

Today these SOTA systems are producing 5nm chip features on 12 inch wafers, and cost ~$300M!!

Remember ~15 years ago when we had a 40nm CMOS that cost ~$4M just for the masks alone!!  Have no idea what a 5nm mast set cost today!
