Lexan labels - where do you get them?
« on: September 21, 2014, 08:12:19 am »
Any leads on a good supplier of Lexan / Polycarbonate labels?

Looking for general Lexan labels, maybe some with LCD windows, maybe some with simple keypads integrated.

Something like these ones:

I'm hoping to locate an online supplier who is something like pcbcart.com - inexpensive, reliable, good product etc.

Any recommendations?

Cheers

During Daves video of the convention I believe I  saw a stand that had those sort of panels. Maybe you can re watch that part of the video and catch a company name. It might have been Hammond MFG.

You can get custom laser engraving done by pololu. They have material where the surface of the plastic is a coating with a different color then the core.  You supply them with a DWG with layers for cut and layers for engrave, and get your panel back in a few weeks.

You mean like these?  Seems to be a pretty common stuff. They use it to engrave name tags and stuff for doors in office buildings.

this is actually two pieces.  Black Lexan 1/8 thick, glued on 1/16thick black acrylic (to give a bit of 3d effect) with a thin layer of brushed aluminum lexan on top.  The one who did these for me, says the thin stuff he etches all the time. The laser engraves the aluminum off, leaving only the lexan underneath. (it's not really aluminum, it's like a brushed aluminum llook out of lexan or something.)

In the video it was precision circuits that do these types of labels/decals. Also in other materials with different processes.
note that polycarbonate labels can get expensive with increasing detail, both mechanically and artistically (colors) speaking, at least down here any way. Maybe more suppliers in your locale so possibly cheaper.
The odd multimeter or 2 or 3 or 4...or........can't remember !.

@Falcon - thanks. They are different. I'm talking more of the type you might find on the front of your microwave or similar.

@Lowimpedance. Yep I'm familiar with precision (and a couple of other east & west coast companies). I've learned to keep the colour count down to control the price!

I was hoping to find a cheap online chinese source. If I do I'll post an update here.

DTJ,

These guys are near my old office building...

http://www.techprintinc.com/index.html

I remember getting a quote for a membrane switch - it was probably 10 years back now - from these guys, and while I don't remember how much they quoted, I remember that the price and minimum quantity was way less than I expected.

They do all sorts of designs with transparent window areas and all that.  And they also do all sorts of other printing as well.

It's not always the most popular person who gets the job done.

@ IconicPCB - I'm in Western Australia

@Corporate666 - thanks for the link. I tend to stay away from US suppliers as the freight/shipping is generally a killer.

DTJ

Brissy here.

You might want to contact Reid graphics in CLONTARF on Redcliffe peninsula ( yes another Redcliffe in Brisbane ).

Reid do membranes and naturally they process lexan.
