Was looking for a zbook laptop at the HP website when I noticed something...

Hello everyone,

I was browsing for a new professional class workstation laptop for engineers on the HP website when I ran into something I thought was funny, or maybe my eyesight is not like it used to be.

Well, the only thing I catch is the breadboard setup seems pretty damn useless wiring and sparse.

OK the breadboard with the complicated circuit is obvious.
I wonder if it is the same guy on all 3 pictures with different hair and angle.

If it is not the useless clueless breadboard, it might be the green mat with yellow stripes is a so called cutting mat, where you can cut paper and other stuff with a sharp knife, it acts like an ESD mat ?

I know... it's just when you are trying to market an expensive laptop/computer equipment, don't put sloppiness right out on the front page.  Not everyone purchasing these laptops/computers have seen engineers before and may not know this or realize this guy is an engineer because of what he it holding in his hands.

There you have the largest and worst issue: corporate purchasers: they are not engineers but do make the big decisions which tools the engineers eventually get to do their jobs.

I also call bullshit on the "video editor" in tile one.

No half-serious person working in video production uses just one video track. The whole idea of tracks is that you can layer different clips together at various times, not just string a whole bunch together one after the other. I remember when I was filming promos for theatre shows, we used a minimum of 4-5 tracks.

Wow, I like the responses so far.     I guess I was right, (the breadboard)    The "video editor", I didn't even look at that tile,  .

Seems like these people in the image are models or unemployed actors, not real developers, architects or engineers.

Sad they are marketing to us real engineers but their marketing material isn't real.

I guess "this is not your father's Hewlett Packard Company"

There are no shortage of funny stock photos available and yes I would have thought a company as big as HP would have actually had their own photo department take serious photos but then again marketing gets in the way. At least they are using HP computers in the photos. 

Here is one that seems a bit odd also, mostly because she is fixing a CRT but I'm not exactly sure what she is probing (maybe getting a resistance measurement, also not sure if she has probes plugged into the wrong plugs on the DMM, not familiar with that model but at least it's on!):

I don't think the HP ones are stock photos --- the latter would usually have all the brand names erased, for legal reasons.

The "new hp" logo looks more like a downward-pointing middle finger to me...

Checking for an open deflection coil? That one looks far less ridiculous than the other stock image fails I've seen... of course, it would be even more realistic if the meter was facing her face.

The center port seems to read COM, so ignoring polarity they had a one out of three chance of getting it wrong and got it wrong.

Looks like she wants to measure amperage on the 10A limited plug yet nothing is connected to common. What do you measure exactly using probes that are on the outermost plugs without common?

I just hope that whatever stock photo company staged that image, they had the sense to have someone (competent) fully discharge everything inside that CRT before she poked around in the wrong place.
