The wife says I can have a "space" in the apartment
« on: August 03, 2013, 01:21:46 am »
I guess she sees how difficult trying to play with stuff while sitting on the bed or couch is so she said if I like, she'll give her large stuffed chair that normally is full of laundry waiting to go in our out of the wash to her mom and said she has a small desk she can get from her mom to put there for me!

Hooray!

I guess watching me spend multiple hours every day on ebay for weeks looking at cheap scopes made her realize that it probably won't work well on the bed.  ;D

Good thing too. Soldering on the bed is certainly almost as dangerous as smoking on it.  ;)

Claim the living room !

Well. I sort of already did that.  Most of my computer parts, tools and other things are in boxes in the living room and the things that were in the balcony storage closet at our old apartment are there as well (this apartment doesn't have a storage closet).

I really want a house so I can set up a proper space for hobbies, but unfortunately lords of the banking industry can't seem to understand that if I can afford $1000 a month for an apartment, I certainly can afford $700 a month to buy a house.  :-//

I will never understand the finance people.  They got greedy, did some bad shit, people defaulted and they lost money so now they won't give loans because they don't want to make money.  I've always said that if I hit the lottery, I'll help out random people with things I see they need because most people that have a lot don't.

Wouldn't it be more about how long they think you can afford that for? I'd suspect they expect you to pay for the entire house...

The sad thing is that if I had tried to get a house when I didn't think I could have afforded it, I would have gotten it. Now that I really can... I can't!  Back in 2007 I was paying $1250 a month to rent a 1900sq-ft house and I think that was still when everyone and their dog could be approved for a mortgage.

Well all credit things aside... I'm very big on having a place for me and my wife to live.

I've wanted to get one for years and given the advice here I may just realize that dream.  I have to pick and choose my "extras" and right now I'm trying to design a proper power supply.  The way I look at it is that if it doesn't have juice I can't scope it.  Maybe by next summer.  Don't stress on the house thing, you'll get there one day if you want it bad enough and are creative enough.

I'm in an apartment too, so I don't have a lot of room for a workbench.

I found these...
http://www.amazon.com/2x4basics-90164-Workbench-Shelving-Storage/dp/B0030T1BRE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1375566943&sr=8-1&keywords=workbench

The kit comes with the big black plastic pieces and you provide your own lumber, so you could in theory make it as big or small as you'd like.
