It's just some EBay thing where it is easier to put the price up to stupid than it is to say "not in stock".

Ebay doesn't allow regular sellers to simply suspend a listing temporarily. If an item has a long history of many sales, but stock runs low, the seller will change the price to keep the last one from being sold and losing all the sales history. There doesn't seem to be a need for that in this case though.

I have checked and the seller is really the "DFRobot.com" and not a scam artist. They are selling some items in the ebay store at a hire price than their web shop. E.g.: 28 pin ZIF socket is $1.50+shipping(can be small packet air for $2.50 from Canada Post)=$4 at their web shop, but $3.59+$2.50 Economy International Shipping at ebay=$6.09:-//

Ebay and Paypal take 10% to 15% in fees and a crappy exchange rate so yes the prices on Ebay must be higher than in a regular webshop.
There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.

Heck, they better have zero resistance and offer error correction for data lines.

This will be the reason:

Ebay doesn't allow regular sellers to simply suspend a listing temporarily. If an item has a long history of many sales, but stock runs low, the seller will change the price to keep the last one from being sold and losing all the sales history.

The sales history figures in the eBay search algorithm.  Products that have great success are very much liked by eBay.  It means fees!  Thus, eBay are keen to keep these products high in the search results.

When a listing drops off, you lose your sales history.  When you list again, you start from scratch.

Putting the price up to an unrealistic value will dissuade buyers, allowing the listing to remain and keep the sales history intact.  When new stock arrives, the quantity can be updated and the price changed.

Plated gold, are you kidding me, they better be at least 24k gold, or at least made with room temperature superconductive conductor in a super-insulator shell which can insulate over a gigavolt yet be thin as any breadboard wiring.

I'd like to see the matching 'audiophool' breadboard!
I guess the specs would go something like this:

  • Moulded in a composite of linen fibre and polymerised virgin shellac
  • Cryogenically treated 24 carat Gold plated Oxygen free Copper/Platinum alloy contact strips
  • Sustainably sourced Ebony base
  • 24 carat Gold plated left and right 1/4" and Phono input and output sockets
  • Battery compartment for twenty AA cells, in two independent banks tapped at 6V, 9V 12V and 15V, with an anti-microphonic lining of undyed slub silk for enhanced clarity
  • 24 carat Gold plated Oxygen free binding posts for the connectors and batteries
  • Natural Cork feet for enhanced isolation and damping

with introductory 25ml bottle of Gold plating solution for component leads that cannot be sourced pre-plated.

I have to say, so many projects didn't work on breadboard because of stupid crappy jumper cables,
I've used those:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/120PCS-Dupont-Wire-Male-to-Male-Male-to-Female-Female-to-Female-Jumper-Cable-/112136497789?hash=item1a1bdb2a7d:g:NtEAAOSwmLlX2Wsy
and:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/65Pcs-Male-to-Male-Solderless-Flexible-Breadboard-Jumper-Cable-Wires-For-Arduino-/252107574004?hash=item3ab2c84af4:g:JBUAAOSwv0tVAV2q
just garbage, what I'm using now is only this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/140Pcs-U-Shape-Solderless-Breadboard-Jumper-Cable-Wire-Kit-For-Arduino-Shield-B2-/322172738754?var=&hash=item4b02fddcc2:m:mKzrKpnb84UDF52_x2A3Ydw
just with a different color. those are pure solid core wire so nothing can go wrong about them, but one problem they do have is that they are not flexible. if they where non solid core but made of silicon wire with a soldered header pin on the sides it would be great.

I wonder if those very long orange/yellow/grey jumpers are really useful? Recently I have only used the very short ones (which spans 3-4-5 holes), but in my slightly different set there are only a couple of them, so I have run out of the smaller ones.

The long ones are mostly useless, but you can cut them and strip them to other sizes  :)

I find those pre-cut wires almost useless because I prefer to color-code all connections. If somebody would start selling those with all lengths the same color I'd buy a bunch of them.

I made a set from used welding ground single 0 cable. Freaking great and cost practically nothing cause the stuff was gonna hit the garbage can anyways. even if you just bought 20 feet of new stuff it would be well worth it. nice and floppy flexible too.

What are the male connectors called in this wire set? http://www.ebay.com/itm/65Pcs-Male-to-Male-Solderless-Flexible-Breadboard-Jumper-Cable-Wires-For-Arduino-/252107574004?hash=item3ab2c84af4:g:JBUAAOSwv0tVAV2q

They look like one position female headers, but those lack the ability to be crimped to a wire and I cannot find anything that matches this on Digikey.

I find telecom frame wire is great for breadboarding.  It is a solid conductor and about 20-22 awg or so and easy to strip.   A while back I asked my boss if I can grab some scraps and filled a small box, have enough to last me a life time. Whenever there is a land line disconnect or change the old wire goes into a bin to be recycled so it's pretty much free wire.

Since I have a lot of it I use it for various interconnects in projects too.  Decent for winding magnetic coils and stuff too.

Cheap and failure-prone. Those look like the round molded-on kind with pins that bend all over the place. Get the square-cross-section crimped-on-and-inserted-into-the-shell kind instead; those are much more reliable. Search term for cheap sellers is 'DuPont connector/jumper/etc'; SparkFun and Adafruit just call them jumpers; I don't know what Digi-Key would call them.
I refuse to use AD's LTspice or any other "free" software whose license agreement prohibits benchmarking it (which implies it's really bad) or publicly disclosing the existence of the agreement. Fortunately, I haven't agreed to that one, and those terms are public already.
