--- Quote from: Marco on June 20, 2018, 03:10:32 am ---Why the quotation marks? 1.4 Billion was the total amount of money invested. It was well known at the time her methods were considered impossible, she almost certainly didn't and doesn't have the technology to make that consideration wrong, it's a fact she has not shown it, it's also a fact she claimed to have it.

Careful. Lots of things once considered impossible are now a reality. The mere common knowledge nor expert opinion that something is so doesn't necessarily make it so.

"heavier-than-air flying machines are impossible"

Of rockets being able to travel into space: "Professor [Robert] Goddard does not know the relationship between action and reaction," wrote the [New York] Times. "He seems to lack the basic knowledge ladled out daily in high schools."

"I think there is a world market for maybe five computers." --Thomas Watson, president of IBM, 1943

"There is no reason anyone would want a computer in their home." --Ken Olsen, founder of Digital Equipment Corporation, 1977

"Almost all of the many predictions now being made about 1996 hinge on the Internet's continuing exponential growth. But I predict the Internet will soon go spectacularly supernova and in 1996 catastrophically collapse." --Robert Metcalfe, founder of 3Com and credited inventor of Ethernet, 1995

Marco:
That's where evidence comes in. Induction is impossible, but you will always have to compromise a little in the real world. I feel safe to state that it's a fact that the sun will come up tomorrow and that Elizabeth Holmes is a fraud.

Next in the queue: Meredith Perry.

Funny how none of the board members are on trial. They had some heavyweights in there:

Elizabeth Holmes, founder and CEO
Riley Bechtel, former Bechtel Group CEO
David Boies, a founder and the chairman of Boies Schiller & Flexner
William Foege, former director CDC
Richard Kovacevich, former Wells Fargo CEO and chairman
James Mattis, later US Secretary of Defense
Fabrizio Bonanni, former executive vice president of Amgen

She was 19 - and all the above have not done anything wrong?

I think the picture is more nuanced than what the press is showing. But it comes from the Silicon Valley illness. "Ohh you need more money - we can't invest less than XXX million - so please beef up your proposal"

I'm not saying the founder is innocent - but I do think she is not the only or biggest culprit. Greed was (And Silicon Valley mentality)

Ok, so last time I went to the doctor to make a blood test for common stuff, I payed something like 15 EUR, I do this yearly. That is 17 dollars, the same as each test cost on that list. My GP took the blood and called me a few days later, and told me I'm fine. This was 100% payed by me, not a single cent from the healtcare funds.
The issue is not that "people cannot afford medication" the issue is built into your system. And the sooner you realize this, the sooner you can change something about it.
