This laser etching attempt made me laugh.

Hi Folks,

Dave and everyone is always on about people trying to etch model numbers off ICs, usually when it obvious what it is.

This is an attempt I found in my Lightwave RF dimmer switch! They've clearly set this up to do it as well ;D

Can you identify it..?

Lick & Rub !!!   :)  It soon comes off!!!   8)
I always wonder what 'process' they use to also write on the rubbery buttons of our typical remote-
controls... There are buttons that we press/rub-on countless times a day, for countless months, and
the writing stays intact!!   :-+

The buttons on the old HP calculators could not be filed off.  That's because they were "double injection molded" meaning they molded the buttons with numbers protruding and then molded more button around the numbers so the numbers went all the way through the button!  Well... part of the way through anyhow.  The point is they were not on top of the button, but within and so can't be rubbed off, ever.
