Title: Those resealable blue bags Digi-Key uses...
Post by: knotlogic on May 24, 2019, 02:29:47 am
For anyone who's done a Digi-Key order before... A lot of my items come in those resealable blue bags.  Anyone know what they're made of and where I might be able to buy them from?  I find I reuse them quite a lot, and they don't seem to tear as easily as some of the other small resealable bags I've used.

I reuse them also. I just looked and Digi-Key doesn't seem to sell them, although they do sell the anti-static conductive bags.

It might work to suggest they sell them as a Digi-Key part. I've also gotten the pink ones for some parts.

They're just anti-static polyethylene bags.  Available from a number of suppliers, but generally not recommended for reuse, as apparently the dissipative treatment is not very durable.  Conductive bags are recommended for anything truly sensitive.

Yes that's true, but from memory Digikey don't put very sensitive parts in those bags, unless they're already in something more conductive, such as carbon loaded foam. They're anti-static because they will likely be used around static sensitive components.

I don't see the problem with reusing them for non-static sensitive parts.

The blue bags (classically pink, as I recall) are only designed to prevent charge build, as opposed to protecting their contents like a shielded bag.

It couldn't hurt to ask Digikey if they'll name their supplier. Sometimes the bags are marked, I don't recall if any of my Digikey ones are.

Yes typically Digikey sends ICs in double bags, with the blue one inside a regular antistatic bag. They only send non-sensitive components like passives in just a blue bag alone.

Digikey ships MSL components double bagged.

That's it! somehow I filtered those out as I searched down.

Would be cheaper to order a whole bunch of cheap parts then buying the bags.

I swear those bags are a menace, I need to get my ESD safe micro parts drawers made with little lids and make a bunch of jigs and stuff so I can make more.

I consolidate when I can and once in a while throw out a gigantic stack of them , I think I had a box that was like 2x3 feet loaded with fucking digikey bags.

listening to god damn crinkle crinkle every time you wanna get a part  |O
