Couldn't Resist buying one for that price.

It should be fun taking it apart!

"Supports 1080i/720P/576P/480P/576i/480i signals, *native resolution 640x480,compatible with 1024x768. Supports HD."

Lol, perhaps some clueless person will think it's HD.

"7."Green product", no radiation & pollution"

Perhaps that's because it's made from recycled parts?

Couldn't Resist buying one for that price.
Price is incredibly low, but is not worth it in economic terms:
Purchase cost ~$20. Entertainment/resale/scrap value ~$0.
It should be fun taking it apart!
I doubt about fun part. Dave has already done a teardown of cheap projector on episode #671. Expect this to be even worse.

Ok, let's see.

"no radiation"
"no bulb to replace"
"with upgraded lighting system 50,000+ hours"

It would seem that it completely lacks a light source and they're putting the best possible spin on it.  :-)

Economic sense? Really? This isn't a car or some other major purchase, I couldn't even buy the cords it comes with for $19aud at my local electronics shop, have you considered some people actively enjoy taking thing apart to examine their construction? Anyway, it costs less than a six pack of beer.

All factually true.

The fact that it doesn't have a light bulb doesn't mean it doesn't have a light source. They mentioned "LED" in the title for a reason.

I think you misunderstood me. You can buy this item if you like, maybe you will have some fun tearing it down/repairing it. It is cheap after all.
I just mentioned that cheap, poor quality and stripped down for the cost item is not as fun for use or teardown as proper unit.

Fair enough, I have zero expectations anyway, I'll be happy if it powers up. I just want to take it apart for the sake of curiosity and to find out how much effect goes into the $19 POS.

I ordered one, I used to have one for Halloween (yup I dropped it and broke the bulb). Anyway shine it on the curtains from behind with a few creepy images and there you go.

Stuff like this is a bit of a gamble but I do buy things to play with. When the little kids come over load up a screen saver and set it on the floor shining on a sheet and you have a cool pirate ship. I prefer this to the "singing wall trout" any day.

So to sony mavica, thanks.

I'm more impressed by the 27$ android car radio/dvd/whatever. (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Android-4-2-2-OS-2-DIN-Car-DVD-Player-E1-Radio-Stereo-GPS-Navigation-Wifi-1080p-/271719199463) Similar products seems to be sold for alot more!  :-//
Anyways, I have brought one. It could be useful for many projects if it actually does all the things the listing states!  :-+

Look at the other stuff from that seller, looks like all prices are a factor 10 too low. That projector sells for around $200 at other places.

I saw something similar, not quite that cheap, and found some teardown pics.
basically what it consisted of was a QVGA LCD panel with no rear reflector, a white LED, and some fresnel lenses.
e.g.

Youtube channel:Taking wierd stuff apart. Very apart.
Mike's Electric Stuff: High voltage, vintage electronics etc.
Day Job: Mostly LEDs

Ebay, really just another form of gambling. As long as you are aware of the dangers. Paypal gives you some security.

I picked up my microscope off ebay (Canadian company) and it works excellent and was a good price. So not problem there. I picked up an unbranded 720p LED projector (China) 6 months ago for 330 bucks and it works quite well. Have seen better but not for that amount of money. The down side is that if the gear develops a fault warranty would be a big issue.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/SJ4000-Black-12MP-HD-1080P-Car-Cam-Sports-DV-Action-Waterproof-Camera-2x-Battery-/201249354336?pt=AU_Video_Cameras&hash=item2edb657260

Just as long as you expect to get a fake.

It is interesting that they show two different cameras. One WiFi and one not. Also they don't show the accessories such as the waterproof case which is a dead giveaway for the fake.

yeah i don't care if its a fake camcorder or just a crap fake SJ4000 for the price it would be ok but i think the listing might be a scam???

A 640x480 LCD module alone can cost more than $19... even from China.

A 640x480 projector usually costs 10x more, so I would beware of scam, but there's always the possibility they've messed up their decimal point.

I picked up an unbranded 720p LED projector (China) 6 months ago for 330 bucks and it works quite well. Have seen better but not for that amount of money. The down side is that if the gear develops a fault warranty would be a big issue.
That is a more reasonable price.

If it works, and is easy to open/repair - go for it.
Even as a static 'server status' display or miniature reverse-projection Santa bauble - it's worth $19

Not everything has to be a Bentley or Veyron.

Just enjoy it for what it is - like your kids.
Some of them won't turn out to be Kate Upton or Einstein either.
Don't ask a question if you aren't willing to listen to the answer.

First tv I remember was a couple black and white boxes piled on top of each other. One for picture the other for sound, certainly beats that.

Lol, I noticed Dave attracted some controversy when he destroyed it by stabbing the woofer.

I say good on him for doing it. The unit was unsafe so rendering it beyond use was the right thing to do, as it stops someone else from finding it, using it and burning their house down or being electrocuted.

I doubt any of the components were really worth reusing. I suppose the copper and steel/iron in the transformer and speaker could be worth recycling but only if you have a large quantity. Take the unit to your local ewaste facility and hope they recycle most of the materials.

And Maybe can be useable for something....
Maybe can use it in the bedroom as a small TV/Computer display.

I Have just ordered one, will see if it arrives... (They say between 1st and 7th January 2015.....) We will see.

"Native resolution 640x480"

Looks like they had a load of old low resolution parts lying around and assembled the cheapest possible device base don then, rather than chucking them in the bin. It's a complete POS, little more than a gimmick, but still quite incredible that they can apparently make it, ship it half way around the world, pay all taxes and still make a profit.
I just bought one for all the spare leads alone.  :-DD

I just purchased the 1280x800 native one to see. Hard to complain if I get burned. Same price as the other and better specs.

Actually I confused the price with the prices of some other things. But it is still so very inexpensive it ws worth the risk and some fun.

Thanks.
I still want to know what uses the extra 90W after the 150W LED lamp power is deducted from the overall power consumption? What does 15V @3A power supply spec mean? Is it a truer reflection of the power requirements and hence lamp power? And why do they declare the customs cost as $80 when the sale price is so much lower?

Every time I read the listing I end with more questions than answers.

High wattage LED needs a big honkin' fan.

The photoshopped projectors sitting on the table in their "factory" picture is amusing... and Googling the number in the image' URL it looks like they're also selling on Taobao, since I found their 1280x800 projector there, but it sells for almost exactly 10x as much so I'm starting to think this is a deliberate scam of some sort.

Edit: also found the brand "V-weny" here on AliExpress: http://www.aliexpress.com/store/504849

It looks like you may be getting a projector bulb instead of a projector. Even the LED for their projectors costs a lot more...

This is the real item for the 1280x800 projector, note the seller name and the identical pictures: http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-3500lumens-1280-800-Home-theater-LED-Projector-USB-TV-Full-HD-3D-1080P-WIFI-/261464174513?forcev4exp=true

Mine has be claimed to be shipped too. I agree that the pricing is suspicious. That seems to be the only thing really. All other signs seem to indicate a valid ebay seller with valid products. I do suspect I will be disappointed in the end but what the hell.... it is a gamble and a cheap one.

As at 1540hrs here in NZ, the seller "jiangshu91" no longer has any items listed.
Perhaps they have just woken up to the fact that their pricing bot screwed up...

Or, Santa has left the building, :)

Would still be interesting to see where this whole thing ends. I hope people get their stuff. But it does smell like a con.

Often times, people get con'd because of their greed: "I cannot pass up on that GREAT deal". As they say, if it is too good to be true, ...

Buyer protection...
I just have to wait until next Tuesday.
If it hasn't turned up, I will get my money back.
If by some chance I don't get my money back, no big deal... It's only $20... I will spend more than that on beer at the pub this afternoon.

Just got this email:

We're writing to let you know that we've removed an item you recently won:
transaction number removed - New 3500lumens,1280*800 Home theater LED Projector,USB,TV, Full HD,3D,1080P,WIFI

Since you've already paid for the item, you don't need to do anything else. If your item hasn't arrived yet, it should arrive soon. If it doesn't, then you'll want to open a case in our Resolution Centre. You can learn how to do this, plus find timelines for opening cases, at:
http://pages.ebay.ca/help/buy/item-not-received.html

We wish you all the best on eBay and hope your future experiences are pleasant and successful. If you have questions, please click "Help & Contact" at the top of most eBay pages.

yeah i went to ebay today and got this

We had to remove this listing from the site and you're not required to complete the transaction. If you've already sent payment, the sale should process as normal and you don't have anything to worry about. If you have any questions about delivery, please check tracking or contact your seller. If you run into any trouble along the way eBay is here to help. Please visit the Resolution Center to help resolve any problems you may encounter.
MORE POWER!

That one ended with lies from the seller, quick cancellation of orders and refund via PayPal, not eBay system. Thus, some people were left with "unpaid" orders in their basket.

Are you referring to StreetAutoParts or the item that is the subject of this thread?
I have had shipping notification - not that that means much.
Sale has not been cancelled or returned to an unpaid state...
Yes, StreetAutoParts and Keithley DC PS.

Same message here.
I very much doubt the item will arrive.
Under normal circumstances one would have to wait until the delivery time had expired before "visiting the resolution centre".
In this case the above ebay message now replaces the delivery details.
Also, what is not in the above quote from sony mavica is the additional text from ebay: "This user is no longer registered on eBay."
The usual process for the resolution centre is to contact the seller first... How is that going to work?
Anyway, I will just leave it until next Tuesday and then have the payment reversed.
All a bit of harmless fun...

I opened a dispute in the Ebay resolution center yesterday.

Today I get this message :
Good news! We issued you a full refund of XXX on Jan 01, 2015. The refund includes the purchase price plus original shipping and has been credited to your PayPal account.

This case has been decided in your favor.

Comments:
After reviewing the seller's recent activity, we decided to expedite your refund.

My ebay resolution centre seems to be trying everything possible to deny any kind of refund... I'm not sure what labyrinth of menu clicks are needed, but the best I have got so far...

"This item isn't covered by eBay Money Back Guarantee  [ Previous ]

Hot! NEW LCD/LED Video Projector Home Theater 1080p HDMI TV HD PS3 Movie Night
Item no: 271718610581
Sale date:27/12/14 21:58
Quantity: 1
View order details
We're sorry there's an issue with your purchase. Unfortunately, this item isn't in a category covered by eBay Money Back Guarantee. We don't offer buyer protection on items listed in the Real Estate category, certain Motors categories, or in the Classified Ad format. You can try to work out this problem by contacting the seller."

Have ebay reclassified it as Real Estate, Motors or Classified Ad in order to shirk their guarantee?

I received a refund. If you don't get one, contact ebay about it directly instead of using the refund request form.
