« on: February 06, 2021, 11:13:11 am »
China's Tianwen-1 Mars probe sent back its first image of Mars.

It has traveled about 465 million kilometers, reaching more than 184 million kilometers from earth and 1.1 million kilometers from Mars as of 8 pm Friday.

And will enter Mars orbit on 10th Feb 2021.

This is an interesting month for Mars exploration. NASA's Mars Perseverance rover will land on Feb. 18 too.

For those who are not space nerds, approximately every 26 months the orbits of Earth and Mars align just right for minimum energy transfer orbits. That's why all the space programs rush for Mars around the same time. Mars has a history of being a difficult target to reach. I wish the Chinese and everyone else good fortune in their attempts this time around.

Indeed, interesting time as we have 3 nations probes on their way to Mars, 2 landers (US & China) and 1 orbiter (UAE).
