Eh, I've never really insulted a machine before. It's pretty much always my fault and not the machines. I mean calling a computer a "bloody jumped up calculator with delusions of grandeur" isn't going to solve the problem. My first step when I realise things aren't going according to plan is "what have you done now lad?" and before too long I've identified the faulty assumption I made. I can't remember the last time a machine failed on me.
Actually I'm just replying cause I love the word "arschloch", though why you had to go on and tell it you weren't going to choose it again..... that's just cruel. ("nehm" = choose, nein?)

When I curse at inanimate objects (e.g. manufactured goods/buildings/prototypes) I am actually referring to the designer/builder/hacker whose work I am afflicted with. So I didn't call the *design* that includes bad capacitors and a crappy power supply a "cheap-ass moron"; that's what I called the *designer* who screwed me and everybody else who bought it.

I have said a lot of words, but unfortunately it can't be accurately translated from that multiple languages mix. And IMO would be to rude for posting here even if I tried :).

Nehm is an abbreviation of "nehmen" which means to take. "Wählen" is to choose. So unless I'm mistaken the translation is "No! I can't take this solder-bridging arsehole any more!"

"Nehmen" can be used for "choose" in the sense "take" or "pick", i.e "Ich nehme eine schwarzwälderkirschtorte" or "Ich nehme das luftkissenboot". Yeah two more great German nouns!
My German is very rusty but I'm not sure "nehmen" can be used for "tolerate" or "suffer" as in "I can't take this any more". Are you a native speaker (i.e. are you 100% sure)? If not can a native speaker confirm or deny this for me?

I studied with a Moroccan guy, he was a mechanical genius but just couldn't grasp programming at all. He would just sit at the screen looking perplexed then exclaim in a deep accent "This f**king progammation... its f**king me up". I frequently quote him when debugging.

Some minor corrections ;) Nouns start with an upper case character, like "das Luftkissenboot". And the classic cream cake with cherries is called "Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte". The best translation for "to tolerate" or "to suffer" in the context above is "hinnehmen" or "aushalten". "I can't take this any more" is "Ich halte das nicht länger aus".

I grumble at my office computer several times a day. My employer requires "Wellnomics" software to be installed and operating on all our office systems. It reports if we disable or remove it and we have to answer to management. While it probably does reduce the rate of incidences of computer-induced injury, it is just horribly annoying when it suddenly takes control away from what I am doing and I am left typing on a dead keyboard or my mouse action interrupted in mid-stream. It very often happens when i am doing something critical and it breaks my concentration for far longer than the imposed "time-out" break period.
Alas, they are so hyper about safety that all those people out in the factory working with all that dangerous equipment and chemicals and gasses, etc. etc. have an extraordinarily low incident rate, leaving us office workers leading the statistics with injuries from our keyboards, mice, and workstation ergonomics, etc. They are now sending the egronomists around for an annual re-evaluation of our cubicles.

@bwat&Tris: If you like the A-word, you'd be in for a treat in Austria and Bavaria. We have the finest curse-words in all of the German language. Dialect is very colorful here. As to the "nehm", it's indeed short for "nehmen" and just like the word "take" it can have a myriad of meanings. I was talking to a colleague, who wanted me to repair the board again. He wasn't used to cursing in German and broke into laughter. "Nehmen" can mean tolerate in colloquial German if used as an abbreviation for "hinnehmen".
