Title: Total Eclipse March 20th
Post by: German_EE on February 20, 2015, 10:03:34 am
For our European readers (plus a few in North Africa)

At 09:46 UTC on March 20th 2015 there will be a total eclipse. I mention this now so that time off and protective eyewear can be obtained.

Too bad it's only total over the North Atlantic. Still, more than 80% coverage in the UK isn't too bad.

Having witnessed the total eclipse in Europe in 1999, i can tell that it will be spectacular event for the Icelanders, Faroese and Scots.
Get up a tower or hill so you have free 360deg sight to the horizon, it will be amazing...

Would be interesting to see what happens to your grid if it is a sunny day.

The first time I witnessed a decent eclipse (I think it was 90% or so), it was the temperature change that left the biggest impression. It went from pretty warm to needing a jacket in minutes.

I could see why ancient peoples worshiped the sun after an event like that. It's the sun (with a little moon help) reminding you that you're its bitch.

am sure i will hear some religious ppl saying how god saving us by bringing back the sun ... or someone will scream that judgement day is close.

It seems that these thoughts already surfaced in your mind so no need to tell you.

:)

thought surface my mind .. yeah it happen , hope no one tell me such idiotic thoughts
some ppl feel the need to speak out about how religious they are with such comments , just saying worshipping the sun ( or whatever god ) any time a natural event happen is not that ancient, most ppl still do it , just differently.

solar eclipse -> solar cells -> power grid -> collapse

"The warning comes from the French power grid RTE, which said Friday that Europe must be prepared for the event."

Another doomsday prediction -> LINK (http://www.thecelestialconvergence.com/solar-activity-infrastructure-collapse-solar-eclipse-next-march-threatens-europes-power-grid-production-may-drop-much-30000-megawatts-temperature-may-drop-6-degrees-celsius-ju/)

Went to Antalya, Turkey for 3 days during the 1999 full eclipse with two ham radio friends, was great!
In front of me the mediterranean sea, in my back the mountains. Was quite great.

One of the most interesting things was how much sun can be missing without getting the feeling that it is darker. Adaption ftw.

Edit: It wasnt 1999. It was 2006 that I went to turkey for a eclipse. At 99 (or 98) i stayed at home, looking at clouds.
