« on: June 28, 2012, 10:36:10 am »
Have you had problems with posting?
I have tried twice in a row,& the thing has got lost in cyberspace.
Or is the site just trying to tell me something?

What exactly happens when you click the Post button?
Greek letter 'Psi' (not Pounds per Square Inch)

It tries to post, but it times out,
If I then try to reload the page,I've lost my posting, with the answer window going back to empty.(after any quotes).
It was a fairly long posting in each case.
The one I just posted worked OK.(obviously)
Let's see how this one goes!

Dave.

It was probably just a problem at this end,as it seems OK now.

I just tried to create a new topic and when I hit 'Preview' the "Fetching preview..." message come up but I never saw a preview.

Preview worked for this message, though, so I don't know what that means.

I think my problem with the preview feature has to do with having copied some text from a PDF file into the post.  It looks like it is just text but I guessing there are some funny characters in there that the server doesn't like.

Dear Vk6zgo:

--I believe I have found the problem. I was clicking around trying to find what your problem might have been, and I noticed what seems to be an inadvertent "disallowed state" in the SMF software. I shall explain:

--If you were not paying close attention and happened to click on the active link "Attachments and other options" you are taken to an identical page but without what you just typed. Confusing, eh? There is really no reason for "Attachments and other options" to be an active link that I can see. Just try to remember not to click on it.

--Also, you should frequently back up your typing to something like Notepad ++ or even old desultory MS Notepad, which will help when you lose your work for any reason.

--Would someone please confirm the SMF behavior I have cited, so I can be sure it is not just me and my machine.

I had some intermittent trouble posting lately as well.
When I click Post it sometimes times out and does not post, and clicking on Post again will do nothing (some provision against double posts I guess).
When that happens, I have to copy the text of the post out and do a new Reply and pate it in.
Good enough is the enemy of the best.

Thanks, sounds a lot like my problem.
I think your advice to backup my posts as I go is excellent.
I used to do this, but got out of the habit.
One habit I should get out of is that of writing long, rambling posts, editing as I go,which may also be one of the causes of my problem (maybe hitting "Attachments and other options" inadvertently along the way);D
Cheers,
VK6ZGO
