TS-2000 + SDRplay the merging
« on: April 18, 2019, 01:30:55 pm »
I Don't post much but i have a question on tapping in to the RX path of a TS-2000 I am sure there is quite a few amateur radio operators on here and this has to have been done before...

Ok so to start I have the software working with HDSDR and my TS-2000 so I can point and click and the radio snaps to that Freq or tunes with the VFO and the program tracks so that is pretty freaking sweet. i don't think i need to Tap in to any of the IF's in the radio as the SDRplay works good with the software and on its own.
So I need to split my Antenna from my Kenwood to the SDRplay two things that stink 1 I can get a MFJ-1708 but that's Freaking $100 and two I have 2 antenna ports.
I was thinking I can tap in to the RX path of the TS-2000 so I don't Transmit in to the SDRplay and smoke it.

i'm thinking 1 Coax with an SMA connector and a bypass cap is cheaper then MFJ-1708..

I was looking at the schematic and i can tap in before or after the first Preamp?
or I can tap in after the bad-pass filers on the lower board near the first preamp. I was thinking tapping just after the bad pass filters might be a good ida and clean up the single a bit unless there is some freq mixing going on there. In that case i can go back to tapping in around the first preamp.

i don't want to blow up my radio i'll be the first to admit i know a enough to be dangerous..

I did a similar thing with a FT450. Best is to use a high impedance buffer to not load down the RX path. I tapped after the band pass filters (less overload in SDR frontend) -> https://www.wirehead.be/index.php/2018/04/26/yaesu-ft-450-sdr-panadapter-sdr-console/

Yes that is in the long run what i want to do..  Well my tests are disappointing the SDRplay did inject a lot of static in to the receive of the TS-2000 so i would hope the  use a high impedance buffer would stop the loading down and block any crap getting in to the radio..  where can i get a board similar to that to test out?

cool found them! and only $27 + shipping! this hole project will be cheaper then the $100 MFJ switch box and be a lot Cleaner   8)

Well it's in and working! only thing i am waiting for now is a SMA panel mount connector..
12/10 meters is a little deff there is 2 places the guy that sells the board you can tap off from after the 1 amp 1 has a 5.5k Resistor in it and i picked the more conservative rough..

Deaf? Watch out for those TOKO Crystal filters in the TS-2000.. they tend to age badly..  :'(
