Twitter now requires login to browse tweets.

Especially in regards to politicians and other government departments that use it as a public service.
Don't the public have a right to see those posts directly without logging in?

I don't need the tweets personalised to me and I don't want to be required to log in to just read one tweet I've been linked to.

If all the use you make of twitter is reading some linked tweets someone sends, then who cares, you are not a twitter user. And there is no need to post anything to be one.
What I'm saying is that twitter cannot be compared to eevblog or a manufacturers webpage or even a newspaper. It's content is organised by users whose names (@whatever) are like codes that you cannot remember, so
it nice to have an account to store this information for you.

No idea how it is used now, or by whom, I don't have twitter.
It was just a wild guess, that if Twitter would be turned into a private club, then they can't be forced to censorship. Otherwise why they would make it visible only to logged in people?
No mater the reason, if Twitter plans to remain visible for login only, then the politicians would need to find another public platform for their propaganda, I guess. :-//

But it's been that way since inception, and countless people post links that are now hidden unless you have an account.

To me, it boils down to one of two things. Either Elon signed off on this, or he has no control of the company if it does this, like this.
