Agreed and I'm not defending their move, my point is that it is worth it to have an account with them if you are going to read it even from time to time and regardless of the topics you may be interested in.

You sound like you are defending their move... Regardless, the whole model of twitter is advertisement - they have potentially lost me and many others as people who would have viewed ads.

(I have an ad blocker, but I don't think the policy extends to only people using ad blockers.)

Not surprised at all! Twitter already limits reading tweets without login for a few years. You could only see the latest tweets before a pop-up tells you to log in.

PS: I don't have a Twitter account and I'm totally happy about this. ;D

Reddit has been terrible in the past 2 years. Sometimes I just want to read the general opinion about something, without them tracking me. So forget about it on mobile, it will ask you to log in most of the time. They made the browsing experience terrible, where you literrally need to click every time to load new comments. And then do you want to click on a website in the mobile browser? Forces you to use their browser, no way to see the link address, no way to forward it. :-- :palm:
All these companies are doing is profiling. They are setting up your psychological profile for nefarious purposes. A study showed that after looking at 50-100 of your likes on facebook, an AI could predict your opinion better than your spouse.

Regarding Reddit: use old.reddit.com
That interface is not really mobile friendly, but it will not nag you to use the app. If you actually do login (you can create a Reddit account on old.reddit.com *without* an Email Address, just skip that question) you can also force the old layout. Otherwise you might get nagged when opening reddit hosted images.

The new reddit also started to hide some features, like sorting in threads, behind the login. Also, anything marked NSFW, which is not just porn, requires a login. Or old.reddit.com.

Headlines from August 2021: "Twitter starts to require login to view tweets"

What did/does that have to do with Elon ?
