Twitter now requires login to browse tweets.

But that was the case for many years? I mean, that's literally the reason proxy services like nitter existed. When Elon bought Twitter they removed this bullcrap but it seems it didn't last long. Now going back to good old bullshit seems to upset people like it's Elon Musk's new invention? How short is your memory? Or is there something I'm missing?

Why? Twitter is the webpage that makes the most sense to have an account on, since there are no threads or topics but mixed user tweets, so it is useful to have an account that follows the users you are interested in.
Also besides showing the users you follow it has "recommended for you" posts which may increase the users with related topics you follow.

But you could always click "Login" on that pop-up and then a login window would appear, which you could just close to continue reading. I used twitter for reading without feeling any limitation without an account.
