Just do a quick youtube search and absorb the rebellion in all its glory and despair.
Basically it comes down to Patreon deciding to be an unstable heavy-hander (in step with the big tech coop) and probably shooting themselves in the foot for it.
Personally I suspect a lot of the actual problem comes from above Patreon (i.e. PayPal, Stripe, Visa, Mastercard, etc.) but wherever it comes from, it's certainly a problem and Patreon isn't helping (actually worsening) and the problem remains and is growing, FWIW.

I don't quite understand the function of bitbacker for recipients that are already fully versant and comfortable with receiving crypto-coin directly like Dave. It seems like an unnecessary middleman.  :-//

Just like Patreon I can post content exclusively to backers.

Imagine it?  I do not need to.  The banks and credit processing companies have been doing that for a while and never stopped.

To save you time, here is a link to a YT video of the situation.  Rogan actually uses the word he used.

I suspect a lot of the actual problem comes from above Patreon (i.e. PayPal, Stripe, Visa, Mastercard, etc.)

It's usually not the credit card companies, they are well aware of their monopoly position and tend to leave the defacto censorship to the payment processors.

The payment processors and banks have been doing this at least since 2013 to disfavored industries and individuals.  I am inclined to think that after Operation Choke Point which I linked above, some people decided it was too good of an idea to drop.

I look forward to what comes out of discovery from the NRA/ACLU lawsuit against New York governor Cuomo if it gets that far.

That's been going on for decades. Look up how sex workers have been treated in the past by banks, even in places where it's not necessarily illegal.

I couldn't understand how/why Patreon can ruin their business in such a simple way :-DD
Next point is on you YouTube why it's even exist next to their services? From business point of view YouTube doing something wrong.
And the last point is why the heck it's no simple transparent service without any restrictions like transfer money for some little fees and those services like those Patreon pages will be under different agreement.

Nevertheless I didn't like Patreon system from beginning.

The interview with the Patreon representative sure makes it seem like the financial processors were calling the shots.  She made the typical denial that is not a denial practically saying it without saying it.  This is supported by what then happened to Subscribestar.

A friend just forwarded this to me.  Follow the links in the article for more details.

I'm not aware of any MCC with fees involved for “promoting hatred”, “promoting violence”, and “promoting hate speech”. As I said, it's almost always the payment processors which do the discriminating and this article doesn't really prove anything to the contrary.

I don't quite understand the function of bitbacker for recipients that are already fully versant and comfortable with receiving crypto-coin directly like Dave. It seems like an unnecessary middleman.  :-//

Patreon and subscription services in general rely on the psychological truth that lazy people can be more easily be talked into a subscription than talk themselves out of it. You don't really get that with non recurring payments.

That said, I wouldn't really trust some non incorporated nobody with a multisig wallet I deposited money in for backing purposes.

Subscribestar has apparently restarting operations after PayPal, Mastercard, and Visa cut them off.
