Title: UNREAD FORUM TOPICS - which one?
Post by: SL4P on November 04, 2015, 01:52:46 am
Since the web site rehash, I see that I occasionally end up on two different UNREAD TOPICS lists nm the forum(s)...

https://www.eevblog.com/forum/unread/ (https://www.eevblog.com/forum/unread/)?c=1
     -or-
https://www.eevblog.com/forum/unread/ (https://www.eevblog.com/forum/unread/)?c=2

Seems to be (1) EEVBLOG, or (2) ELECTRONICS
What's the difference, and which forum is appropriate for a specific subject - as they seem to have the same sections...?

I should have posted this capture (the forum banner section)

Both sections are collapsible (-/+ indicators)
Also just BTW - on some posts, I don't get email notifications - yet others I do...

I just end up on
https://www.eevblog.com/forum/unread/ (https://www.eevblog.com/forum/unread/)
Same...
https://www.eevblog.com/forum/unread/ (https://www.eevblog.com/forum/unread/)?c=1 brings me to a page I've never seen before
https://www.eevblog.com/forum/unread/ (https://www.eevblog.com/forum/unread/)?c=2 just brings me to https://www.eevblog.com/forum/unread/ (https://www.eevblog.com/forum/unread/)
Different settings?  ???

Eh, this is really simple: if you click the "Show unread posts since your last visit." link in the upper left corner, you get unread posts from all forums. If you instead click on "Unread Posts" on the right side of a subforum category (only visible on this page: https://www.eevblog.com/forum/index.php (https://www.eevblog.com/forum/index.php)), you get the c parameter in your URL, and only forum posts from that category show up.

So: c=1: you only get posts from the "Electronics" category. c=2: you only get posts from the "EEVBlog" category. c=3: you only get posts from the "PCB/EDA Design" category. No c at all: you get posts from all categories.

You're seeing something different than I am!
on Desktop PC (Chrome)
I go to EEVblog - then Forum pull-down (for sake of simplicity).
The page displays with this banner (attached) - no link to a 'combined' Show Unread Posts

Same on Chrome in IOS - so maybe a Chrome <tag> rendering issue ?

EDGE (EEVblog home page) has a completely different top-menu format, but the same 'odd' Unread Posts display in the Forum

Have you tried clicking on the arrow on the top right?  ???

Hmm?
What happened to the old Unread Posts button?
A white arrow on a light grey background seems counterintuitive - especially when there are TWO unread categories displayed immediately below !
Oh well form over function seems to be popular nowadays.

The unread posts link is still there, where I described it above. I'm guessing that at some point you accidentally clicked on the mentioned white arrow and hid it.

And yes, this showing and hiding of content seems rather pointless to me. A classic case of "look what I can do with CSS/JavaScript! Aren't I clever!"
