Need helf finding some coax adapters on ebay.
« on: July 04, 2014, 07:37:49 pm »
Hey all, I need help finding dome coax adapters, but don't really know what to put into the search bar to get the right ones.

I have quite a few regular coax cables that would have been used with TV antennas, what I am looking for is an adapter from this "regular" sized coax to the small kind used with wireless PCI cards, that way I can take my server's wifi antenna outside the garage for better connection, and also get a USB wifi adapter and throw an antenna in the 12 foot satellite dish I got.

It seems I will need a female mini coax to male standard coax for connecting to the card, and then a male to male to connect from the large coax to the antenna's mini coax cable.

I think that I need male for the standard coax at least, not sure how you would specify male and female since the cable is what has the pin.

Anyways, what terms do I need to throw in to find the correct adapters?

I had to look here first in the past http://www.minikits.com.au/components/connectors then see what they were called if there .

But coincidently and I do not know if you yourself have noticed? but a few hours ago I sent a "report a member" to ebay , I complained that the search results were pathetic showing all sorts of not related stuff lately , I suggested they return back the algorithm they had .

In the report a member form , I listed the member as ebays computer ...

Heh, that's pretty good. What ebay site are you using? ebay.ca is working fine.

I'll look through that site to see if I can find what they are called.

The Wifi antenna cables are 50 Ohm characteristic impedance, the TV coax is 75 Ohm ... even if you used baluns to solve the mismatch without much loss you would lose ~3db over 10 meter of cable.

Why not just get a wifi router and connect it through cat5 to your server?

Seems like that would have to be the way to go then, didn't now about the impedance difference :/

Going to be a while before I can get a router to use as a repeater though.

the .au site , btw now I recollect that in the end I just got them from minikits as it was easier + a bit of LMR400 , I too was after a FME/SMA and something else?75ohm cable fitting to 50ohm (different outer cable size) like marco suggests , but they do fit with a bit of juggling and no trouble , in fact that's what is getting me to the server here via a pay-tv dish modified to 3G mobile ..
