Various board materials for prototyping?
« on: September 18, 2017, 04:10:22 pm »
I'm curious about various board materials that can be used for prototyping, and any advantages/disadvantages.

For example of an unusual one, here's a potato chip being used:

I'd like to know about more materials that can be used, either something you have used yourself or seen (other than just the standard PCB materials and wood boards). It doesn't have to be optimal materials, just something that is usable.

Just about anything. Old CDs or DVDs comes to my mind with manhattan style droplets. If you are artistic enough you don't need a board at all, just flying wire construction. ;D

If using CDs, how do you drill the holes for components?

No drilling, but using superglue to attach soldering pads. Do a web search for "manhattan prototyping".

There are a number of people that create various electronics based sculptures these days but I wouldn't be surprised if Jim Williams was the first.
