Very old electrical switchboards

(1/1)

Halcyon:
I thought I'd share this here for fans of old electrics. This was taken a few months ago in a 130+ year old building in Sydney. I don't want to give away the exact location, but the ground floor is all commercial premises and a restaurant, while upstairs is all residential units.

Obviously the switchboard wasn't here when the building was built and aspects of it have been added to over time to result in this mess. About a month later, it was all completely ripped out and replaced.

There are elements of this which would no longer comply with today's standards and the old mains busbars (if you can call them that), in the black boxes as so old they are stamped with "Sydney County Council" on them, which existed between 1935 and 1990.

Apologies about the clarity. This was taken on my phone and the lighting was horrible.

SeanB:
Few generations of Email meters there, probably dating at least from the 1970's as well. Yes you can see generations of quick fix upgrades there, installed by electricians who ranged from DILLIGAF to just merely zoned out.

TimFox:
At least the breakers are legibly labeled.
When my former employer moved into a new building, the circuit breakers bore labels such as "Emily's Office".
Not only did Emily leave the company, but the walls were re-arranged later so that her office disappeared.

Neomys Sapiens:
When reading that title 'Very old electrical switchboards', I did expect something like the following pictures, i.e. marble and 'Frankenstein-switches'.
 :-DD

TimFox:
I don't have a picture, but I remember an antique x-ray controller in the museum in Linköping, Sweden, where all the high-voltage switches, etc. were mounted on a marble slab.
