During this year's annual Vivid event in Sydney, there'll be a Robowars day. This may be of interest to Sydney eevblog readers?

3:00pm, Sun 5th June, 2016
Overseas Passenger Terminal, NSW

This year the event features four MASSIVE destruction packed sessions of robo fighting:
SESSION 1: 3:00PM - 4:15PM
SESSION 2: 4:30PM - 5:45PM
SESSION 3: 7:00PM - 8:15PM
SESSION 4: 8:30PM - 9:45PM

I've never seen a robowars event in person before, so rather looking forward to this.

Man, I wish I had time and money to try building something to enter the competition. Would be so much fun. Even without explosives. :D

My best idea was something like a big wrecking ball, able to roll around by shifting internal weight, but also with an internal pneumatic powered pogo-stick ram, that allowed it to launch into the air. High into the air. With software trajectory aiming by adjusting tilt before firing. Call it the Drop Bear.

Not terribly practical, since an agile opponent could always dodge. But still pretty funny. And it might get lucky. Also completely immune to death by flip-over.

Second choice would be something agile, with a copper shell well up off the floor on insulating wheeled legs, and an internal high power Tesla coil that rained big HF arcs on everything near it. Give the opponent's electrical shielding a really hard fu... testing. Call it Nikola's Revenge.
