Yea I just saw that on a news site. What an idiot.  :palm:
I told my friends I could teach them to be funny, but they all just laughed at me.

Why would you want to touch a chunk of metal anyway?

Whenever I see someone use double-quotes as "EMPHASIS" I make a point of disregarding whatever they wrote.

It may be one of those "POSTED NO TRESPASSING" things. The emphasis is to highlight that text is exactly matching some guide.

No it isn't. It's literally idiots who think quotes are for emphasis. (Yes, you can literally be a rocket scientist and be an idiot with text.)

This is much ado about nothing. Even NASA said it wasn't a problem. I think if their (president, vice president) breakfast orders were made public, half the country would be fuming and there would be days of criticism on CNN with health and diet experts lined up out the door. It is really getting old, no matter what side of the political spectrum you're on.

It may be one of those "POSTED NO TRESPASSING" things. The emphasis is to highlight that text is exactly matching some guide.

Agreed! This is one of my pet peeves. I "love" the signs that read "Welcome!" or "Thank you!" Do they not realize the quotes completely change the meaning of the quoted text?

because it said not to - that's how politicians think.
it's like a dog pissing on a lamp-post, he was indicating his "authority".

personally i would have made up some bs about contamination from grease and billed him for a replacement!

His DNA is now on that, and it's going into space.

That could turn badly.  :-DD

There is a community of people who scan the North Korean media for pictures which can be used to learn more about the current state of their various arms programs.

One of the interesting things about Kim Jong Un is that he's clearly a heavy smoker, and he's not averse to lighting up when surrounded by missile fuel and no doubt, signs in Korean saying "No Smoking!" must be everywhere too, (although I cant read Korean so wouldn't know). But he is so oblivious to such things that many people are fully expecting to read someday tnat he blew himself and many others up by accident by lighting a cigarette in some highly flammable atmosphere.

In the pictures that show him smoking during these on site guidance sessions the technicians there clearly look very very uncomfortable but, they cant say anything, because he's the "Great Suryong", after all.  (a living God, basically)

This has been going on for quite a while (years) but in looking for examples to add to this thread I can see that it appears that the most recent of a great many videos and photos of him doing this emerged just hours ago, literally, he's smoking alongside of the recently launched North Korean ICBM.

Also, coming up in the same search was a story that he spent literally millions of dollars on tobacco and tobacco related products - while many people in North Korea - especially the North Korean military- are literally starving..

(You can see the signs of malnutrition clearly, I don't just mean figuratively.)

Not so smart!

Where do they get these politicians?

Personally I'd have the workshop polish up some impressive-looking piece of scrap from the Apollo graveyard, put the sign on that and place it in his path.

We've had like four threads locked already because people have to start up a political debate. There are other forums and real life clubs for this shit. It's not needed on an electronics forum.

If you want to start up a political debate, take up Twitter. It's full of people who have nothing better to do than spout their worthless, incredibly misguided opinions all over the place.

Bluescull. I'm really sorry. I am not even the slightest bit mad at you. I also find your posts really informative.

NASA is around as good as it gets in government but even they are not above groupthink as illustrated during the Challenger disaster and its aftermath, which was written up by physicist Richard Feynmann, in a book entitled "what do you care about what people think" or something like that. A really great read.

Bluescull, if you look back through my posts you'll see that I often have spoken up against people making racist comments about China. I care a great deal about both the US and China. And I very much want us to be friends - and go to the stars together.

This is much ado about nothing. Even NASA said it wasn't a problem.

That's the magic about a single frame image... there's no extended context or sound track.

Certainly, if contamination was a problem, there's no way they would have had that piece out in the open like that - and if his fingerprints needed removing, you can bet one of the techs would be right behind the media party with his cleaning gear at the ready.  If it is getting launched into space, the vibrations it would have to survive would make a stroking hand utterly unnoticeable.  Perhaps the sign was intended to reduce the risk of someone doing something stupid.

You have to remember that visits like these are BIG events.  All sorts of protocols can be set aside to get a positive response from those who directly influence their funding.

I'm not being personal either. I just want to say that each part of the world has its own rules and styles of living, and it's better that everyone lives in their own bubble and no one touches others' bubbles.

The only problem I have with that statement is that it assumes your style of living and design of government is unique to your country. It fails to take into account the horrors that the rest of the world faced and fought and died over to put an end to those forms of government. We don't live in insulated bubbles, ignorant of the way of life in other's respective bubbles. Some of us are personally, acutely aware.

Hang on, my Bullshit Alarm has just gone off.

If that piece was flight hardware there's no way that someone would attach a warning notice to it using a piece of tape. It's more likely that a large item like that would be surrounded by a barrier and the warning sign hung from the barrier

THIS is how to deal with flight hardware:

Should you find yourself in a chronically leaking boat, energy devoted to changing vessels is likely to be more productive than energy devoted to patching leaks.

It is obviously not something extremely critical. Just something they don't want to be touched a lot by idiots, who have no idea what they are doing. Apparently you can't stop idiots in that simple naive manner :)
