Warped QMP Workbench
« on: October 12, 2021, 07:37:15 pm »
I recently bought a used QMP workbench, it is about 3yrs old. It's 1800mm x 900mm with a Neostat ESD surface.

https://www.qmp.uk.com/square-tube-esd-workbenches.html

Thing is its warped, or more specifically the top is cupped. Front to back over a distance of 900mm it dips in the middle by about 8mm. Which is enough to be noticeable.

Its also doing the same width ways too, but the metal frame is holding it to a degree.

It seems a bit of a bad design really. There's nothing in the centre of the worktop to support it and prevent it dipping in the middle. The metal bars going width ways aren't box section steel. More like a C shape, and the worktop is bending it out of shape as it curls up. All 4 corners are lifting up. The only box section part is the leg frames and they aren't even attached to the worktop.

I'm assuming its been in a damp environment. The bottom has absorbed more moisture than the rubberised top, and thats why its warped. I've got an old cantilever Kaymar bench though, same size, and that has been in a cold damp shed for 20yrs... no problem at all.

The amount QMP charge for these workbenches, the engineering is pretty poor really.
