Was this data recording/telemetry for cars?
« on: April 25, 2014, 09:05:50 am »
I found this image here http://www.bsccoc.ca/FordOfBritain100.php and i'm bit confused.

As far as i remember, wireless telemetry was available at that time, also, those cables look so strong and bit overkill for a task. Also, what could they measure at that time when they didn't have so sophisticated sensors...Am I wrong if i say that it's probably not cable for data transfer???

Looks more like an attempt at in transit refuelling!

I am pretty sure they had quite good accelerometers at the time, by the late 70s I recall one that you could place a good one on a table and use it as a microphone. Strain gauges have always been very small, the amplifiers have been the limiting factor.

Measuring responses of suspension components, as they say without the weight of the recording equipment in the test vehicle would have been quite interesting stuff.
Whoah! Watch where that landed we might need it later.

Ok fine, they had sensors, but would they really need this bulky equipment and cable, that can affect results, for telemetry at that time?
