You should know that nothing irritates an opamp more than having unbalanced inputs.

The opamp will throw a temper tantrum, and its output will swing violently towards either rail depending on the nature of irritation, its fury limited only by its slew rate and output voltage swing.

To avoid that, you should tame and de-escalate the opamp with negative feedback. Only then, can you ensure that the opamp will be a good boy and behave linearly. Warning! too much negative feedback and the behavior will be oscillatory. Make sure that you compensate accordingly if you intend to use excessive negative feedback.
