Some narrow descriptions there Kiriakos, I hate such generalised categories! These types broad categories are never an accurate description of the inclusion or exclusion of other roles something that irks me on every re-negotiation of business insurance.

My professional life is probably a 60/40 mix of electronic and Electrical disciplines, I doubt I'm Robinson Crusoe in such a mix.
What about our Mr D.L. Jones? Does being a respected professional preclude his being a habitual hobbyist?

To be accurate many would need to tick more than one box IE: most, but certainly not all, of the professionals should also tick the hobbyist box!

Ok here is my own creation as screwdriver,
actually it is a normal screwdriver turned upside down,
and lightly machined so to fit at the pictured type of screw.

Well for everything it worth's, I would say that I would happily kick in the balls the moron
who had designed an such a screw somewhere in the year 2000 - 2002.

In all seriousness, my employment at the moment is as an apprentice Instrument Fitter (control systems trade), doing calibration of DMMs, scopes, and tong ammeters.... I've learnt a lot from this job, and the guys I've worked with have been great.

However, I just landed a job at a major University as a trainee technical officer, designing and maintaining equipment for researchers!  I start next month, and I can't wait!

We forgotten to mentioned the huge variety of screw drivers.  We have micro-screwdrivers by Wilha and Chinese made generic brands from small screws.  There are ratcheting screwdrivers with remove able bits.  There are electric screw drivers with pistol grip, inline, pivoting head, impact mechanic ism, and right angle rotating and impacting.  There is a screwdriver with LED illumination around the shaft to lit the work area.  There is a renaissance of screwdriver design, ergonomic shapes, and mechanics.

Well currently I have only one screwdriver in my wish list .
And this would one with Torque control that it can do both,
6 in-lbs torque.
&
9 in-lbs torque.

So to use it mostly with my Fluke 28II, so to Retain the IP67 Rating. ( water proof )

Forget about multimeters and oscilloscopes.  I think we spent more time discussing about multimeters and oscilloscopes than this basic mechanical fastener removal, installation, and adjustment tool.  The topic is screwdrivers, not my cheap $179.00 USD single channel analog small oscilloscope with the green phosphor tube screen or the two vintage Philips PM2505 and PM 2518 and Fluke 187 multimeter.  I has a Fluke 8060A, when I started electronics school and used it for over 7 years and it broke.  I sent it back to Fluke and participate into their trade in program for a discounted Fluke 187.  It uses a lot of AA batteries, but it lasted longer than the Fluke 8060A.  There are a huge varieties and designs for the screwdriver, a topic of its own.  Torque screwdrivers are very specialized and often are expensive for just one fixed setting or multiple settings.  I cannot think of an electronics application that would need this.  I have read automotive and motorcycle engine carburetor and fuel injection repair might need a torque screwdriver.  Space satellite assembly might call for a torque screw driver.  I have worked on some microscopes, but just a good tip fitting screw driver is all that is necessary, not a torque screw driver.  There are not many electronics application that needs an impact screw driver.  These are used mostly or entirely for carpentry, coarse and rough work.  IBM computer cases once have the quest for screwless repair and entry and closure computer cabinets and cases like the vintage PS/2 computers, Model 50Z, 10 MHz Intel 80286 with the math chip, 80287 zero wait state PC computer with MCA, microchannel architecture slots, not the standard PCI and PCI Express slots of present.

well I'm no expert but I think impact screwdrivers are used in mechanical stuff, we use them at work for removing tight screws. As the name suggests you hit them to make them turn, I think if you did this to wood you would damage the wood and thread

First of all there is no choice about getting a tool or not, if the circumstances demands it.
And I am aware of examples that the torque screwdriver it is a must have.
Mobile phone repairs ( the sony ericsson assembly manuals are loaded with torque values )
Digital cameras - Video cameras - PDA  ( anything portable and small needs Torque screwdrivers )

As electric screwdriver I use one battery powered Bosch ( screwdriver / Power drill)
At the front of it there is an special ring that acts as torque adjustment with settings of 1-5 + Drill mode.
I could say that if I had something similar in the form of a hand tool, I would be happy.

And I did manage to avoid getting special tools with torque control,
by doing an cheap and smart trick.
I got an very expensive set of bondhus allen key (Hex key ),
the very extra long version, so to control and sense the force by hand.
It worked nicely, all the screws at both left and right engine covers, got in place nicely, no oil or water leakage.
Professional results and perfect work all the way.  

There are not many electronics application that needs an impact screw driver.

True ... even if I have one of the best sets of them, I have never use it on electronics.
And the damn bits for it are so expensive.    ( Germany) .

probably because they are made to withstand high torque that would just chew a regular bit. We used them at work for getting hard screws out, as you hit them with a hammer they can really only be used on metal stuff

Impact screw drivers are used where you need the screw done up very tight. The only use i have seen at work is on screws used to hold bearing cover plates on in a cooling fan assembly. We also have to use the impact driver to get the screws out again. I'm guessing the idea is that because you hit them to make them turn you are also forcing the bit into the screw head and so preventing it from slipping

Every screw who is located on a spot that very high temperatures arises,
most of times it gets stack in there.

Example the braking disks on the motorcycles,  the braking disk gets extremely hot, all this temperature travels to the screws and the wheel too.
Also the oxidized screws needs the help of an Impact screw driver.

At automotive , the starters and the generators ( the repairable ones ),
they also needed a bit of help with the Impact screw driver.

And a third example, in some cases that you will screw in a bolt, that is not correctly positioned according to the screw thread,
It will stack in, and so the Impact screw driver it could possibly help again, so to remove it.

My wife got me one of those as a joke gift.  Comes with bits  and sounds correct as I'm trying to fix something with it.  But still doesn't work, as the microwave is still busted.
