so far I had great experience with goldmine, two orders and they arrive about a week after making the order and the prices are great. the good thing is that the parts are genuine whilst not the newest usually surplus given to them or places going out of business, but its great for hobbyists that want through-hole components since a lot of the newer stuff are SMD
I made an order through futurlec. but after three weeks of not shipping anything I emailed them and they said they are in the process of restocking. I did some research and they appear to have the habit of shipping stuff well over a month after making the order. for someone that ordered for them are the ICs/regulators from them genuine parts or not? because they don't seem to be selling old stock but rather in production parts and they ship from SEA so there is the off chance some of these parts are fakes or just low quality. can anyone chime in
the third one I'm looking at is smcelectronics, Haven't ordered anything yet but might give them a try.
anyway I did notice that some of the electronic part stores are simply selling stuff from alibaba simply more expensive, tayda to be specific.
which places do yall go for and have you had experience with these?

All Electronics in Van Nuys. Sometimes LC electronics, also in the LA area.

The Electronic Goldmine grab bags are the only ones I've bought. It's fun to sort through them and see what you get, haven't bought one in years but I've used quite a few of the parts I got in the last one.

I kind of make my own grab bags. I recall at a swap meet, a guy had a box of coaxial adapters with a note that they were so much each. So I asked him how much for the whole box. That caught him off guard and he quoted a number that I couldn't resist. I now have more coaxial adapters than I will ever need.

Back in Grade school, I used to purchase grab bags from Jameco Electronics (https://www.jameco.com/shop/KeywordSearchResultView?search_type_c=jamecoall&catalogId=10001&storeId=10001&langId=-1&freeText=grab+bag). They also have electronic component assortment cabinet kits (https://www.jameco.com/shop/KeywordSearchResultView?langId=-1&storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&search_type_c=jamecoall&freeText=component+kit). I learned about them because the school I was attending at the time buys electronic components and soldering kits from them on a yearly basis for the beginner electronics curriculum.

Sadly, I believe the glory days of electronic grab bags are gone. When there was a lot of domestic US manufacturing of electronic goods floor sweepings, lot remnants and bankruptcy sales were sources of parts with too little value to sort and sell. Now that those sources have mostly disappeared the vendors have no choice but to buy overseas. And those manufacturers are using SM parts.
It is too bad. I have learned much over the years from parts found in these bags. It was worth it even though 90% or more of the parts were never used, many discarded immediately.

Omg yes. These guys are the worst. I was just about to post on the Futurlec thread when I saw this. I recently (this summer) ordered an MCU Dev board from them. Zero comfirmation of ordering or anything. I waited a month and contacted them. They said shipping soon. Contacted them after waiting again. They gave me tracking to someone else's order (I assume because it didn't even go to my country and was eventually marked DELIVERED). Contacted them again. More tracking and waiting. Eventually I got the package. Looks like the board might have been bought used off eBay. Dusty and gross. Not only that, one of my items was not shipped.

It's been years since I've ordered anything from Futurelec, but at the time I got everything I ordered, and the shipping time while not fast, was not really any slower than the usual direct from China stuff.
