What info is in patent filing for chips ?

For instance I'm searching a 10yo sound card processor, I'd be happy to find what the official input voltage is (I know what drives it tho). So is that publicly available in some patent filing ? Don't they have to release some basic electrical characteristic's in some public doc. or something? What about when they get certified for EMI and safety ?

IDK jack about legalize and patents, but some video I watched just lately mentioned getting good info from something publicly available. I've heard of patent searches. How's that work for electronics ?

No, if you don't have the datasheet you are SOL.

There is not even such thing as "patenting a chip", before you jump to assume that blueskull's post implies you can find schematics of any chip on the Internet. At best, you may find patents describing some circuits inside or technological solutions employed to produce the chip, stuff like that. And they won't even be marked as referring to your chip specifically, but described in general terms like "a method of doing X with Y".

What about FCC stuff (federal com.com) This reminds me of some sort of RF TX/RX I salvaged, and I did find a bunch of info on the machine, from a testing authority. But yeah, right not the chips themselves, but a bunch on the digital side.


Ok I was watching something on hardware hacking and he was talking about what you can learn about a whole machine, like a modem or appliance. Probably about JTAG and machine protocol that has to be published, that type of stuff.

But I know it's not the old days when schematic's were available.
