What is you opinion about segmentation of EEVblog forum?
« on: December 15, 2013, 04:21:49 pm »
Hello guys
I think in some case the EEVblog forum has some shortages. for example why doesn't it has a part for programming and coding?(for MCUs, FPGAs, RTOSs and etc)

I think we need to a separate part for coding and programming.

That's the MCU & FPGA section! What else do you think is supposed to go in there, silicon die design of microcontrollers? That's a bit out of scope for this forum... :-//

And if you want a section on general coding and programming, you might as well have one on cooking! :scared:

But, today, the coding and programming is a part of embedded world.

That's why we already have a forum for it.

I can see the confusion. This past semester i hada course named "microprocessors". It should have been named "introduction to assembly programming". While we did learn a little bit about the MCU we were working with, it was really just enough to get the assemby code programs we were assigned to work.

So maybe a title change to the forum that is more indicitive of programming might help alleviate the confusion.

Writing code is for code monkeys...
... Real men use solderin iron's.

Is a soldering iron with digital display, µP temperature-regulated  and auto power saving allowed?

no. we use a raw iron and a well stoked fire.

Without trash collectors

With trash collectors

I still don't want to be one.

And the non-wanky Weller looks damn good IMHO, if you take out the crusty sponge (which becomes no less necessary with the wanky one).

StackOverflow is for programming. And the type of soldering irons real men use is a little metal stick heated by a blow torch.
I'm not saying we should kill all stupid people. I'm just saying that we should remove all product safety labels and let natural selection do its work.

Codemonkey-Bashing aside (BTW: Without coding people hardware is just a useless brick)...

I think the EEVblog Forum could be a little more differenciated with the categories.
I'd like to see something like:
1. General
1.1 EEVblog Videos
1.2 Discussion
1.3 Site News

2. EE
2.1 Equipment
2.2 Microcontrollers
2.2.1 Software
2.3 FPGA / CPLD
2.3.1 Software
2.4 PCB Design/Layout
2.4.1 Software
[...]

3. Products
3.1 Product Reviews
3.1.1 Teardown, Repair, Analysis
3.2 Consumer-Grade Products (TV, PC...)
3.3 Showcase (for own projects)
[...]

ofc in no particular order, list is not complete and may contain serve mistakes. But I think you'll get it.

Lastly, WTF guys, everybody knows real men use a reflow oven.

I understand where you're coming from with wanting a code section, but the EEVBlog is for electronics. I wouldn't say that it needs a specific section for something that isn't hardware.
If you've got coding questions, go to the microcontroller/FPGA section. If you need anything more specific then go to a forum that's there for that specific purpose.

I want separate sections, one for coding and one for programming. Totally different thing.  :-DD

Soldering station with USB Port? Huh?

Set up the temp and parameters on your workstation and dump them to each soldering station on a production line in seconds with a thumb drive.

It also appears to have an Ethernet port... I assume that if the rate of temperature fluctuations does not reach a daily threshold you will be called into the office

but you can't judge a thread by is title in quite a few cases because sometimes people just put "Help needed on project" or something similarly generic.

My opinion is these people should get their Internet access revoked and send to retraining the old fashioned way
