What kind of microcontroller does a Spaceorb (or odd-ball HID controllers) use?

Hello all,
I'm puzzled with the type of microcontrollers that powers a SpaceOrb (and other odd-ball HID controllers). I'm sure they don't use the arduino Pro micro with AT32u8 chip or the ESP32 chips.
What are other commercially available and commercially used USB controller chips?
Keen to share?

Most often they are obscure Chinese microcontrolers with 8051 cores and a hardware USB peripheral. Mostly for the reason that they cost a few cents each rather than a few dollars each (Like a STM,PIC,AVR..etc might)
