What motorcycle do you ride?
« on: August 09, 2015, 09:24:35 pm »
I know "Occasional off-topic stuff is ok, but generally we like to keep it electronics related", but I just bought this new motorcycle and my head is so full with it I just want to vent :). My new motorcycle is an (almost) fully original yamaha dt125r from 1989 in pristine condition, only 7700km on the counter! I am curious what other ee's drive! Post a reply with your baby and maybe some pictures :). Also did you make any (electronic) modifications/upgrades? I plan on making/buying/hacking a gps tracker and maybe a gps velocity/acceleration indicator display.

Before BMW F800GS 2009 , now 2015 KTM 690 Enduro R.

I have added a mount for my zumo 550? 590 or whatever it is and that is pretty much it. I want to add a steering stabilizer but those suckers end up costing 600 euro with all the import taxes and shipping which makes me not want to do it ... Also a nice fairing like the ones from lynx systems (Lynx R) are realy nice but spending 600-800 euro on that ...

I'm still on the A2 license for a year so that kinda sucks , after that I'm not sure what kind of bike I will get.
I like this low weight and reasonable power (70HP) mix. Works great on and offroad, is awesome in the dutch / belgian hills even on semi offroad tyres.

I have always wanted to ride a superbike style of motor just to see how differently it handles. The BMW F800GS didn't want to do corners, you really had to push it down. The KTM has no issues with that.

Secretly I would like a BMW s1000RR but a BMW s1000XR would probably be a better match. Still weight is not something I would like to add :(.

Have to agree that single piston engines are really fun to drive.
Mine has 70HP 690CC single piston. The torque and power band is really fun!

I have 2 in the garage at the moment...

A 2006 Suzuki DR650SE, with over 120,000km on the clock and counting  :P

and the most recent, a 2014 Yamaha R6  8)

The R6 is definitely good fun on the track...

Currently none   :'( , I am missing a yamaha FZ600 reg K738CAN ( purple and black ) that was stolen from me, I have had a number of others over the years , a suzuki gt185 was my first bike, then a Kwak Z400 twin which I loved, a kwak z1000 which was a nightmare, then a suzuki GS650 and a yam xs650 that got chopped.

R100RT, K1100LT, R1100RS, depends on which one accepts to start.

Currently none........but I've been a trials rider for many years.

Montesa 315
GasGas 250
Beta Zero
Beta TR32

Years ago I ran an online webzine dedicated to Motorcycle Trials called TRIALS ACTION.......I sold up in 2000.

Had a few road bikes also, but nothing worthy of a mention here.

Ian.

Old pic of me circa 1995....:-)

Exactly why I want a gps tracker for mine! Especially an enduro type bike, relatively light and small, they can just throw inside of a big enough van! Don't know what I would do seeing my stolen bike blimping on google maps though :p.

before, I had a suzuki sfv650 gladius (blue and white) that I took all the plastic off and stuff.. then I got rid off it (my commute is all mountains, very dangerous with crazy logger trucks and tourists who cant drive a mountain).

I want to get a Suzuki TU250X for noodling around on.

BMW K1300R
Ducati Monster 1100 EVO --> Stolen in SC, USA!
Suz. Gixer 750 just for the Track Days
Actually I have a BMW GS1200 new model, I would love to have 3cm longer legs but still what a nice machine.

My dream bike remains the MV Agusta Rivale.

The wife and I absolutely love to ride.  We've done 3000 mile trips up through Canada, a 2500 mile trip down through Louisiana etc.

Short hauls we ride a 2014 Indian Vintage, longer stuff a 2015 Indian Roadmaster.  In the back is the wife's little 250 trainer  :-DD

I don't have a bike now but the best two bikes I had were a brand new Yamaha RD350LC two stroke twin in the 1980s and I also had a Yamaha IT175H that was street legal although I ran it with enduro/MX tyres as it was used offroad at weekends for quite a few years.

My only regret was that I didn't upgrade the IT175 to something a bit newer/better but it was a lot of fun both on and off road.

Both bikes were so full of mischief that I never bothered with hi performance 4 stroke bikes. I also had a little Honda C90 step thru (4 stroke single) when I was a student. Despite the crappy looks it was a great bike too but for different reasons.

Call me insane, but I would love to have a nice electric motorcycle. But one able to do long rides.

I like motorcycles, but despite of nostalgic reasons, I would prefer a noiseless and electric vehicle I could hack to insanity!

Every time I get gas for my moto a part of me is annoyed and wants to just plug the thing in the wall and let the solar panels fill it up.

Sadly due to the distances I make with the moto every year electric is not an option at the moment. Tho I would like to do a nice long test ride on a brammo motorcycle or any of the other electric ones.

A Kawa ZZR1400. Awesome bike when touring. And... frustrating in city traffic because it throws a lot of heat at you.
