What USB connector types are these?
« on: April 18, 2020, 01:40:52 pm »
I've labelled the images (1)...(3). I think (3) - this is the receptacle I need to buy a cable for - is micro-AB.

However, (1) and (2) look a bit like micro-B - except they are nothing like physically compatible with (3).

The first two are proprietary connectors, the third is a standard micro USB.

Those are proprietary connectors, not standard. They may also have functions other than USB.

I did not realise proprietary (but still USB related, in seems) connectors existed.

I did see some on a data sheet from Adam Technologies called "MUSB-A4-S-RA-TSMT" which is somewhat like image (1)

That's usual mini USB.

Have a look at...

:-// Nothing to do with connectors in question. Not to say 'information' is garbage.

Type C connectors are also smaller than their standard Type A counterparts, but they are essentially an updated version of the Type A connector.

LOL

Micro HDMI has way more pins. Not to say on both top and bottom.

Nope, it's a so-called UC-E6 cable, used mostly on Japanese cameras (my Nikon reflex, e.g. - that's why I recognized it...).

Not at all unobtanium, but not cheap.

Not exactly. UC-E6 is the part number for Nikon’s cable using that plug, not the connector itself, which is commonly referred to as the “8 pin mini-B” connector. (I also object to using Nikon’s part number to refer to the style, since many other digital cameras used that same connector. IIRC it predates the official mini and micro USB connectors.)

Using the generic term gets far more results.

I haven’t had any luck in finding out who actually makes the connector, though! Anyone got a list of Japanese connector manufacturers?
