Lol
After looking at the tip of my soldering iron all day, I've come to realise that soldering irons don't look like that.

So that's how you remove the excess wire from a through hole resistor  :-+

Hold it down with the tip or your fluke multimeter probe and waggle the lead till it falls off. :-DD

Only the Pro's could know what to do and how to do it properly.  :palm:

Just tried it and it isn't actually that good an idea, oh just realized, i was using the red handled probe  |O

Derrr stupid me  :palm:

lol, it's those dumb graphic designers that give the real Artists a bad name! ;-)

The picture is ok;  just badly used;  maybe you might use a "correct" or "in-correct" like..

If you were a pro photographer doing a series of tech stock shots to sell to an image library;  you'd use as many different conceptual angles as you could think of.

Maybe a smart suited boss type character lent over a desk with a PCB wedged between his arse cheeks!   then a caption "Tired of your old job?  then come to Joe's EEngineering Recruitment"

:-)

Haha - these things are happening when photographers just mass-produce some stock images without having any background knowledge of the topic they want to cover.... Like "Looks like electronics stuff... Looks fine".

What to do when you have mislaid your soldering iron, Heat the meter probe with a lighter and apply to part being soldered with the added benefit of joint continuity testing carried out at the same time. https://www.eevblog.com/forum/Smileys/default/smiley_laughing.gif

Its one thing to blame the photog for trying to produce stock photos without background knowledge.

But, you would assume(hope?) SOMEONE in the EE department actually looked at/approved the web site... then again there are plenty posts here about professors who don't know which end of the soldering iron to hold ... maybe because they can't even identify a soldering iron.

And (according to google) the image has been used in other places too:

As far as universities go... what you will find is that most of them have a complete disconnect between the "lower" faculty (lecturers etc.) and the "upper" faculty (the dean and board, who think "circuits lol that looks good!") And then you've got the poor, understaffed IT department, whose job it is to knock up a website for EEng. They'll Google "Electronics repair stock photo" and get this page, and you can see a very similar image there. Why they couldn't send a guy down with a camera is beyond me; it'd take ten minutes.

So the lecturers probably laugh every time they see that but they're completely powerless.

Self-soldering test probes would've come in handy a few times in the past...
