Good beer is cheaper than water here. And we drink it accordingly ;)
I have taken apart more gear than many people. But I have put less gear back together than most people. So there is still room for improvement.

It falls under the heading of Lab chemicals and is far better for you than drinking 99% IPA  >:D

Depends which acronym you meant by IPA. Here, that means India Pale Ale ;)
In a recent visit to WA, a few hours from Bean, we discovered IIPA  < 2 of those and you are wasted !  :-DD

Finally got a nice 19" rack and made my dream signal recovery cart - NIM bin, multichannel analyzer, lock-in amplifier, chart recorder, and auxiliary gear!

I think it turned out marvelously! (Post #4310 in this thread)

OK, so I know what all that lot does (although I'm curious about a lock-in amplifier in that company). But where's your HPGe?

Holy tight spaces Batman!

On the other hand, you literally only have to swivel your chair to go from your computer desk to your workbench...  Efficient!  Creative use, getting the most out of available space.

I added two 8U 19" racks to my workbench:

All 3d printed parts are here

current contents:
  • Ugreen 200W usb charger
  • Rigol DHO924s oscilloscope
  • Riden/Joy-it RD6006 power supply
  • Owon DGE2070 function generator
  • Owon XDM1041 multimeter
  • LED lighting
There's still space left  ;)

When you have small room (or when you're too lazy to clean your bench), floor is bench!

Yes, I also sleep right next to this. Live Laugh Lead. This photo was taken a while back. I have since not improved much.
Hehe, spooked my friends with an exploding electrolytic capacitor the other day 😁.

My back and neck hurt just looking at that.     :-\
Wire shelves on casters could really help reclaim all that space.  Push your work-surface in front of the shelves. Put the instruments at eye-level with component storage above and heavier stuff below.

Ya know... about a year ago, it looked something like this. Ever since my projects have gotten more complex. My issue is space for stuff. My room is about 8ftx8ft, or about 2.5mx2.5m for those of you who use metric.
Hehe, spooked my friends with an exploding electrolytic capacitor the other day 😁.

I very much doubt that that workbench would hold the weight of even one of those Tek 7000 mainframes. It will require something considerably sturdier to hold even half of those instruments.

However, you have to be a pretty dedicated Tek fan to service one of those mainframes on the floor.

Well, it's a massacre, but there is always a solution, I also work in a small space and the working position of my Tek 2465 is in the air on a pull-out shelf. 🤔A simple modification would help here, raise the bed and create a workplace under it  :-DMM

When I get anything larger than the desk top open and build... it goes on the floor, yea.  My back no likey.

Am I alone that it often only begins to nag slightly while you are bent over working, but when you stand back up straight ... that's when you actually notice?

some new additions to my workbench with two 8U 19" racks:

All 3d printed parts are here

racks:

current 19" rack contents:
  • Owon DGE2070 function generator
  • Owon XDM1041 multimeter
  • Ugreen 200W usb charger
  • Riden/Joy-it RD6006 power supply
  • AxxSolder 3.0
  • 24v power supply with d-tap bus splitter outside
  • 5v power supply with d-tap bus splitter inside and outside
  • Network switch 8x 2.5Gb ports + 1x 10Gb SFP+
  • Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 with 0.91" oled display, NVME SSD and two USB hubs
  • 12.6" ultra-wide touch screen(connected to the Compute Module 4)
  • Rigol DHO924s oscilloscope

overview:

There is a metal plate under the antistatic mat, so all work/wire holders and lamps are magnetic:

The antistatic mat significantly reduces the magnetic force, so you need stronger magnets.

The front lights are old ikea led lights, that I added a magnet base to.

The rear lights are meant for sewing machines/lathes etc.

I replaced the magnets on all the PCBite kit with stronger ones. (That are a few mm too large)
(I haven't actually used the PCBite probes for real yet.)

I added 4 magnets to the stickvise.

The magnets on the omnifixo holders (the ones with the yellow base) were already strong enough.

I repurposed old filing cabinets for nuts/bolts/etc. storage:

Each drawer fits 5x Stanley FatMax FMST1-75779 Shallow Organizers.
There are special brackets at the bottom of each drawer, so it's easy to insert an organiser.
And they don't fall over, when you remove one from the drawer.

And that's a clever idea which I may be forced to pinch  :-+

setting it in 19" racks is just seems the right thing to do if your electronics workbench is the mobile van , boat , caravan or motorhome.

Slightly (?) different kind of lab downstairs now...
2284935-0

(L-R:  Fermenting lager at 20PSI/12C in fridge.  Harvesting the 20PSI CO2 gas in 2 small empty kegs (this helps purge them and I can use the 20PSI for other things).  Finally a keg is being vended with the (over 20PSI) waste gas.  It's vending sanitizer into a bucket.  What will remain in that keg when done is a 100% CO2 atmosphere and ideally a sane keg for use.)

Later I stored the 2 small kegs and moved the valving around to bring the big keg up to 20PSI.

A single 14L batch of larger produces nearly half a kilo of CO2.  That is worth time and money to get out of a bottle.

I would be tempted to consider a compressor to take that CO2 up to the keg limits at 130PSI.  However.  That kind of pressure requires a whole new set of fittings and they will cost a small fortune on top of the cost of a 130PSI compressor.
