@alpher: Simple, the caulk (or mastic as Brits say) is too far gone. Chase it out and replace with a sanitary grade silicone. Sanitary grade means it's anti-mould, and should last a good five years before it blackens. Not only will this make your bath look new but, it will also keep the NSA from adding your address to their list of innocent civilians who didn't know what else you can make in the bath with H2O2. |

Be careful with silicone caulk designed for bathroom use. It may well contain anti-microbial poisons, and must not be used for other purposes, such as dishwasher repairs, where the poison can contact food or drinking water. Read the label: I remember a case years ago where the caulk was used on a dishwasher and contained arsenic. |
