surprised it got that high considering   the output of the young clan.

Yup ... AC/DC. Not to mention the BeeGees. Kylie. Olivia. Air Supply. LRB. Midnight Oil. Icehouse. Wiggles. Farnham, Divinyls (one huge song!), the Chisels, Crowded House, INXS, Empire of the Sun.

It's hard to get into the top ten bands, let alone top ten songs.

I have no idea where you found your top 10 list, but as I listed 15 artists/bands (and there are surely more that didn't immediately come to mind, and I'm not even Australian and have only ever spent a few weeks there) it's obviously impossible for them to all have songs in the top 10. Especially if one or more of them have more than one song there, which seems probable.

This list, for example, has "Down Under" at #4.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/APRA_Top_30_Australian_songs

It's over 20 years old, so there could well be new entries.

Oh, wow .. I didn't realise "Tones and I" were Australian. Pretty big song, right there. Everyone in the world knows it.

I listed Cold Chisel, but yes he has a solo career also.

I get them from there:

But still I think this is the australian anthem:

Nope.  Waltzing Matilda is Australia's unofficial national anthem.

Aussie, you say? The announcer, Roy Billing, was born in Ruawai NZ (well, probably Dargaville, not 50 km from where I'm sitting). Also stars Kiwis such as Sam Neill (unusually, without a Russian accent).

Come on Bruce, anyone knows that if any NZ thing is any good it becomes Australian! Split Enz, Russell Crowe, Pavlova etc. The process increases the average IQ in both places, my kiwi friends tell me.

I still prefer this version of the original anthem:

That song is actually one of the first songs that i remember hearing on the radio.
I still like it a lot.
