Which is the eeprom?
« on: March 07, 2021, 12:14:21 am »
I need to change the vin in this junk yard radio but I am not sure which is the eeprom. I want expecting to open it up and find 3 8pin chips.

It's not #2 or #3.  I have no idea what #1 is.

I think what you've shown are...

Fairchild Si4467DY
Rohm BA15532
Infineon BSP742T

None of those are EEPROM. Keep in mind that EEPROMs are not always in 8-pin packages.

That's the one, according to the Internet it will read as either 24c08 or 24c16.

Well I got that one unlock but it won’t work correctly in the vehicle because it original came with a factory navigation. So have a nav unit now and r searching don’t think any of these are the correct one. This is the bottom board unless it’s on the top board. Could somebody verify that none of these are the correct chip. Thanks

Do you mind doing a bit more searching yourself? Some of those ICs you've posted are very "jellybean" and you'd easily be able to find information that shows they are NOT memory in any way.

Yup, just Google skills. Sometimes those sketchy datasheet sites are helpful with small parts that may only have partial numbers.

Ok which would be pin 1 on here I don’t see a dot on this one and trying to figure it out on data sheet looking at it from writing right side up. I get ground on right bottom pin in circuit. That would put pin 1 at top left. Should I be reading it in as a different chip family not a 2408, 2416? Thanks for any help.

I have been following this thread and I wish you luck and all, but let me ask you something...

When I look at threads like this, https://chevroletforum.com/forum/tahoe-suburban-25/unlocking-nav-after-installation-20590/page3/ I see a whole crap-load of "we did this so people would have to come to us to change things and not use junk yards.

So, what are you going to use to read and write this. Are the fields documented? Are there protections, check sums all that stuff?

Using the 866II plus, I have a test clip on it and it says it’s reading it but just shows FF in all spots. So I don’t know if it’s protected or I just need to take it out of circuit.  Once I can get some info on the screen I just change the vin number and rewrite.

Good luck and please do let us know what happens. Somehow, I am pessimistic though - I don't know if I read it somewhere or what, but I thought that there would at least be a checksum in there so just changing the vin would not work - I could be wrong and frequently am :)
