Where to get genuine Hakko tips in the UK?
« on: February 02, 2018, 10:00:52 am »
I ordered a 1.6mm chisel tip for my Hakko 888 last night.
I have the 0.8mm and 2.4mm chisel tips but wanted the 1.6mm so after a fair bit searching I found one. Cost me £7 odds in shipping which I thought was well steep but I know the difference between the cheap ones and genuine ones so I ordered it. I think it came to £15 in total!
I found a couple of genuine ones in the UK but they were the plain pointy tip or conical or the chisel size I already have.

It's coming from France!! You'd think they'd have a supplier in the UK for all their tips!  :--

Dancap are the people. Unfortunately they don't accept paypal, credit or debit cards so I just shrugged and bought a Weller iron from RS.

http://www.dancap.co.uk/ if you fancy the hassle of dealing with a company operating in the dark ages.

Also postage is minimum £5+VAT so you're probably better off buying it from France.

Ha Dancap are in the dark ages alright. Their site is something from the 80's! I bet they all wear shell suits and sweat bands to work! Grosvener are another company who are a registered dealer for Hakko in the UK but they only have irons or full stations! Trying to get just the tips is a PITA!
I think once I have this one i'll have all the tips i'll need and they do last a long time so hopefully I won't have to worry about it again for a long time!
I did think there would be source in the UK all the same.

I did look at the Weller irons too but may get one "next" time I shop for irons!  :)
They get a good name the Weller irons and I doubt they got it by chance. I took the Hakko iron for the small footprint, the really are tiny! A bit of a PITA to set up but once you get the hang of it they are easy enough! And they are password protected too...WTF! Password protected!! LOL That's funny right? A "password protected iron"!!  :-DD  :-DD

On a serious note I like it and am very happy. I would recommend them.

Seconded for Dancap,

I ordered tips and a spare element from them a month or so ago, I phoned to check the stock and found them very helpful, I then emailed my order and sent a payment, got the order next day.

It may be the old way to order but it works :-)

Cool, i'll give them a try next time then.   :-+

How much were the tips and do they charge postage? I'm sure the tips from France were £5 odds and the postage was £7 odds, after tax was added i'm sure it came to £17 somthing. "Robotshop.com UK" was the place I got them from. I only realised they were coming from France when they sent the post confirmation email and I checked the tracking number and realised they were coming from over the channel! Unreal!!  :wtf:

Heres what I ordered and the bill send via email after phoning to check stock :

1 off Hakko A1560 Heating Element = £ 11-49.
1 off Hakko T18-C2 Tip = £ 3-82.
1 off Hakko T18-C3 Tip = £ 3-82.
1 off Hakko T18-D24 Tip = £ 3-82.

Postage charge = £ 6-00.

I sent the cash around 10am and got the delivery early next morning.

Cool, that is very very cheap for real tips!  :wtf:

I will try them for sure my next order! I'm sure I paid 12 or 14 quid for the same T18-D24 chisel tip from ProtoPic a few months ago! It is a real Hakko for sure but the ones from Dancap are a quarter of that price for the same tip!

That's awesome! Thanks for that, i'll try them soon!  :)   :-+

So...the £15.99 Hakko solder tip arrived this morning! I checked the invoice so it was deffo £15.99 all in! Steep eh??

It's a tip for "LEAD FREE" solder!! AAAHHRRRGGGG!!! Damn!

I don't know enough about soldering to really know the difference between lead and lead free tips but I have read it somewhere lead free tips are not good for doing leaded solder work. I have 1 genuine Hakko tip that has turned a sort of blue colour which is a bit strange, I also seem to find that tip "wanting" a bit sometimes when i'm soldering where the other genuine ones always seem to handle the work no problem. I am wondering of this new one will turn blue also.

Maybe someone who knows more about this can shed some light on it.
The genuine tips i have that are not turning that blue colour don't have any laser etched "lead free" markings on them where the new one does but i can't see if the turning blue coloured one is marked "lead free" or not.
It'll be good to see if the new one turns blue after a bit of use too. If it does i will know why!  :wtf:

Next stop Dancal!  |O

All tips in this range are marked lead free. This is important if you must comply to the RHOS rules for production. They work well with leaded solder but once you used it with leaded you must use that tip for leaded only. I Have several original hakko tips in use with leaded solder, all perform well.

I have 2 that aren't marked lead free but these are older so maybe have been marked, I didn't check and now they have been used I can only see bits of the etching. I have a few of the copy ones too and you can see the difference just looking at them and even more when you use them. I only very recently got a genuine 888 and am more impressed each time I use it. I must say though the Katsu 852d(the blue 1) works fine and is a decent wee unit! The pencil for the Katsu is the copy of the Hakko pencil, the 907 one. I used the Katsu happily before I got the Hakko. I would recommend either but the Hakko is just "better". People who have one will know how I mean.

Hi there,

I know its late but considering you have the Scotish flag there is Protopic in Scotland that sell genuine Hakko stuff, I got my 888D from there.

I got some tips from Dancap a while a go, there web site etc is out dated but the feller is really nice, they run the business from there house and have a storage unit.
Believe it or not they are one of the two official Hakko dealers for the UK, Grosvenor associates are the other one, but from memory they havent got a web site as such just deatails where you have to ring them for orders, its the most rediculous thing.
Anyway if you need anything in the future, Protopic is your best bet, you may even live near it :)

Yup Protopic was where I got my 1st "genuine" Hakko tips but then they didn't stock them every time I checked back for ages after so I gave up on them. I can't remember exactly when but they only stocked the tips I already had too for long enough too.
I live about a 20 minute drive over the bridge from them so they are handy enough for me so I may give them another look.

Grosvenor is where I got my FX-888 and for a real good price too. The shipping was super quick too if I remember correctly. It was so cheap I thought it may be a fake but it turned out genuine all over so all good!
I'm still using my same tips and they still seem in good shape so they do last for sure so long as you look after them properly.
How are you liking your 888? I am really impressed with mine for such a small unit.

Lucky your here to keep us right with these things my friend  :-+
Maybe now with your help i will get a genuine Hakko tip from somewhere,,,,,,, oh wait i have a few,,,,, sorry!

I looked all over the shop,,,, at the Weller and ERSA and Metcal and Pace and yadda yadda yadda sites, but would you Adam and Eve it...…. no Hakko tips! DAMN!!  :'(

I would actually take a bet here, that if you picked just 1 tiny part from any of the Hakko range the guys here would manage to track it down,,,,, never mind a whole unit!  :P

Aye they do have some decent stuff.
I had a pair of the Hakko flush cutters they are selling but i'm damned if I know where they are. They are very similar to the CK ones I have now but I would say the tips and cutting blades are a bit tougher wearing on the Hakko's. I didn't get them from Amazon but I was happy to find them there again. I will be picking another set up for sure, you can never have too many pairs of snips right?
One of the funny things is the £1 a set flush cutters that are all over Fleaby and the likes are the ones I use all the time for just general chopping or trimming or whatever I wouldn't use my decent ones for last for ever!
I used a set of my "Piergincomi" or whatever they are called (can never remember the name) for some tougher stuff and the blades are permanently dented now.  :-\

I’ve been using the same Piergia-wotsit ones for a while as well. I did consider some Lindstroms but I’d be gutted if I screwed up a pair of them. I consider them consumables these days. Usually chuck them in to get free amazon delivery :)

Clarke / Machine Mart do a decent set of cheap ones for about a tenner for three. They’re like the Chinese crap ones but made of proper metal instead of recycled tud.
