Wow, that was pretty good. I never knew how small Shockley's role in the discovery of the Point-Contact Transistor actually was. That said, he was on the right track initially with the field-effect transistor, and he *did* end up (very quickly as it turns out) building on the point-contact device to create the NPN sandwich which could be reliably manufactured and packaged.
So I'd say ultimately he deserves equal credit.
