Yokogawa DLM2024 Oscillocope Review
« on: April 06, 2010, 03:35:45 pm »
I think Dave's given me the review bug! The local Yokogawa rep let us borrow a DLM2024 scope for a week at work, and I couldn't resist bringing it home for the weekend to do a review.

This is the first time I've tried something like this, hopefully my video isn't too horrible. And please excuse my attempt at saying "Don't turn it on, take it apahht"   ;D

David,

that was very good hands-on-review. I think that was even better than the "Original Dave" in sense that you made some real world measurements with not-so-trivial signals (those really show how good the acquisition and display hardware really is). I liked how you compared the features, responsiveness and zoom capabilities to Agilent 6000 series. Now I know that I'm not the only person in the world who has 6000 around :P

Regards,
Janne

Thanks guys! Glad you liked it.

Janne: Yep, I was surprised too that someone else had a 6000.

Great work Dave!, really enjoyed it.
How does it compare price-wise to the Agilent?
Some of the analysis functions are really nifty, and that dead-time display is real handy. Although you need that display when it appears to have horrible dead-time!
I've seen those "wiggly" BNC connectors on some really high priced gear, don't know how they have implemented it in this case though.

The Agilent 6000 is my all-time favorite scope, but sadly I don't have access to one (and a ton of other gear) any more after I changed jobs :(
As an aside, the blog would probably be a fair bit different if I was still working at my previous company, so much more access to gear and cool engineering things to show and talk about. My current job is an equipment wasteland in comparison!

Dave.

Hello teslas500

I'm about to change my old HAMEG Analog Oscilloscope for a Digital Oscilloscope .
Before I've been looking at other brands Tektronix, Agilent Hameg and Yokogawa.
I would like to know your opinion on what to buy and the latter, you have had in your hands by testing.
I looked at Tektronix MSO3024 and Agilent MSOX3024A, what is your opinion on handling, simplicity and performance compared with the Yokogawa 2024.
They also say it is the first time I have a digital one in my hands and I see they are very expensive.

They also say, encouraged by your videos.

Regards,

Do you think this Yokogawa DLM2024 can beat the Tektronix MSO2024 (http://www.tek.com/products/oscilloscopes/mso2000/)? I think both of them cost similar...
