Solved: 560uF 400V with odd terminals
« on: February 08, 2022, 03:18:31 pm »
I am trying to find replacement capacitors for a Fanuc servo drive but I can't find any with this odd 90 degree terminal option like the picture below.  Nippon Chemi-Con 400V 560uF, 35mm Dia. 42mm tall.  The only other markings are CE and 4DP718. Any idea where to find or what series cap or footprint name?

I assume for keying to get correct polarity or terminal can freely rotate and in this image happen to be in this position.

The terminal seem to be set to that position from the factory, the slots in the PCB are also at 90 degree.  I don't think they are meant to be rotated after capacitor assembly, but can that be done without damaging the capacitor?  This is the end view of the actual capacitor from the board (.100" header for scale), notice how the terminals seem potted.

Haven't you found it alreadY? That it's 620 uF, 420 V is of no consequence.

No I have not found it, it is no longer available for sale from that vendor.  Here is the link to source of first image https://www.aliexpress.com/item/2040236013.html
I may have to try my best to bend leads of standard terminals since these seem to be kinda odd. I did try contacting Nippon Chemicon the other day, but no reply yet.
Here is the board.

Why should people help you with such basic efforts?
Go and hunt through Nippon Chemi-Con parts until you find it.
Why would a volume manufacturer (that doesnt sell direct?) spend time for your tiny quantity?

Took all of about 30 seconds here to find several compatible series with the right footprint, none of which are standard parts (so they were a custom order for the manufacturer).

"Why should people help you with such basic efforts?"
I am asking for help, not demanding it.  I am thankful for any help that anyone may offer.
"Go and hunt through Nippon Chemi-Con parts until you find it."
I did, only found standard through hole types.  Search engines, Digikey, and others, seen over 2000 images of the wrong caps.
"Why would a volume manufacturer (that doesnt sell direct?) spend time for your tiny quantity?"
I agree, doubt they will reply at all, at best, just point me to the same distributors.

"Took all of about 30 seconds here to find several compatible series with the right footprint, none of which are standard parts (so they were a custom order for the manufacturer)."
:palm: I proudly take first place as the idiot of the month.  I never knew capacitors had options like that so I never looked at the data sheets, just figured it was a discontinued series.
   THANK YOU SO MUCH!

It happens to pretty much all of us at one point or another - but most of us keep a lot of those moments to ourselves.  Occasionally things are so absurd that we just have to share.

There's a lot of odd things to discover and data sheets are an important resource!  Be warned, they can be odd, too.
