| Why is so much general purpose connecting wire so hard to solder? |

Today (2 Jan 2023): We just struggled to get a WWII reconstruction debugged, with vintage axial 1/2..1W resistors and capacitors, plated but oxidized leads. Just found 5 poor connections that looked OK at first glance but were in fact cold/intermittent solder joints. That caused several unrelated issues. Just touching the board or probing made the bugs come and go. Our nice HOT Metcal SP-200 (my 1992 design!) with Kester 44 core 63/37 Eutectic tinned every bad solder joint nicely. All working reliably ! Jon |
